@MUZZYA soaker tub to wash bottles in........that struck a chord with me. I needed to soak 30 bottles the other day, and realised that the laundry tub wasn't big enough. Followed by a lot of messing about washing in stages. Might try the bath tub next time.

Just be aware the bath uses a lot of water. That's why I changed to the big barrel. I understand not everyone will have a big barrel. A suggestion to possibly save water, if it's available, is to soak them in your FV. This also gives your FV an extra clean. I don't think you'll get 30 in it but you'd get the lion's share in it and the rest could go in the laundry tub or a bucket.

Thanks @MUZZY, but on this occasion the FV was full of beer! I think I'll hunt up a 20L bucket with lid.

I try and be prepared, but it's funny the things you don't realize until you're in the middle of a task!!

My third brew (another Australian Pale Ale) is bottled now. Difference to last brew is the brew sat at 18-20deg instead of 22;  we put sugar in instead of carbonation drops. Also re-used bottles for the first time using a bleach soak and good rinse, and cut collars off half of the lids.   It will be interesting to see what the difference is.

I think you will notice a difference @jennyss I switched to sugar ages ago, it does a much better job, also the temp is better for a Pale Ale. Good Luck with it.

How cool is this: In my fermenter right now is a 5 hop American Pale Ale.  It has been cold crashing for a few days and will stay there until I have an empty keg.  That means I will not have to brew again until that FV is empty.  Which is great.  All my 10 kegs have beer in them or are full and I have one brew sitting at 0.5c waiting for a home.  I had a sneaky taste of it last night and it exactly what I expected a nice hoppy APA.  I much prefer them to IPA. I find they have a better balance of bitterness and hop.

This is the 5 Hop APA recipe:   The Super Pride was actually a First Wort addition. So put in at Mash out temp. I have become an advocate of that method gives a much smoother bitterness and now do it with all my beers.

If you do a triple hot rinse every time you have a beer i.e. use up the contents of the bottle... three hot rinses, then drain, dry and cap them (I used clean old used caps just pushed on) and keep them clean in a box...  Next bottling day -- I would then just do a shake-n-rinse with near to boiling water with dishywash gloves on, pop coopers lollies in them, fill up w new beer and cap w new crown seal....  but that is with heavy good quality Coopers largies... not so good w plazzies.  Anyway - just a thought @jennyss 👍

EASTER BREWING  🐰

What's everyone's brewing plans for the Easter Weekend ? I know a lot of people load up everything they can & in the car/van/boat & head off somewhere & travel for km's, stay a few days then turn around & come home fighting traffic & unpack everything.

Not me, I am content to stay home & socialise with friends/neighbours but I will be bottling my first AG brew & brewing my 2nd.

I am waiting on a delivery from Keg Land & it looks like it will be here today so Classic Brewing Co is open for business, what about yours?

Bottling the Modus Operandi Russian Imperial Stout tonight.

Brewing a Modus Operandi Former Tenant Red IPA on Saturday.

Eating my weight in chocolate on Sunday.

Being very sick on Easter Monday.

No drinking then Shamus ? Ah well it may do you good to have a break - I say, why ... 🤔

Cheers anyway.

No, not on the wagon or anything like that.  I did not list the essentials like breathing, eating food and drinking beer.  I just thought they were a given. 😁

Bottled my Modus Operandi Russian Imperial Stout last night.  Pictured half way through bottling.  Got 24 750ml longnecks (18 litres) @ 8.3% ABV.  Bottled because this is a beer for aging.  FG was 1.019.  You can see how big the Krausen was.  The underside of the top of the lid even had Krausen sticking to it.  Luckily it washed off really easily.

I primed with 2 carbonation drops, hopefully that does not turn out too much for the ones I will keep longer.

Bottled a Draught today

Brewed a Dark Ale.

Liked the recipe using a Pale Ale Can and Dark Malt.

I had both so gave it a go.

Added 200g of Carapils and 30g of Southern Cross Hops.

Will see in about 5 weeks how it turned out.

While I was cleaning up in the Office/Brew Room I discovered an un-opened tin of Coopers Real Ale 08/11/23 so I ducked down to Big W & grabbed a BE3 & some Galaxy to be dry hopped around day 4-5, I already had a box of 500gm LDME so I put it together for the last k & k brew, SG 1.044.

My keg & accessories will be here around the time this has finished so now I have one to go.

In the next couple of days I will do AG #2.

Now the Bathroom/Laundry has become a brew room as well !!

It may if you keep them too long.

I am more than willing to help you drink it

IMG20220430123232.thumb.jpg.3781138f54618fc3d5bbe2be7b6ebfce.jpgNot the most glamorous or exciting photo. My American Brown in cold crash mode.

I'm favouring the shorter and colder dry hop method these days. The last several I have done this way have all turned out really well. Could be other processes making the improvement but it hasn't made it worse so I think I'll stick with it. I dry hopped this with 50g each of Chinook and Cascade.

Should be right to keg tomorrow.

Looks like it is done, I pushed the gas out to check.

Shame I had to run away to stop the young bloke getting the rona.
That one needs to be kegged, but I did turn the temp right down

AG Stone & Wood Clone

This time I’m using the magnet method to do the enclosed transfer.

‘Yes it is in the Fermzilla but I don’t like the collection jar at the bottom, it’s a pain in the $ss to remove & refit.

‘I am using it basically as an All Rounder, which I have ordered for ease of use.

See how we go.

Cheers RD44 🍻🍻

Interesting set up @Red devil 44. You don't seem to be worried about the gauge on the spunding valve getting any moisture in it. I always have mine mounted with the gauge at the highest point with the lines below it in case there is any wort going into the line (some sort of accident), or any condensation.

I have also tried the conical and all rounder and I was never satisfied with either of them, I find that a SS kegmenter is the way to go, for me at least.
