As I mentioned before, I love my Japanese beer. And this one is no exception, it’s actually bloody good, especially for a sixpack for $15.and it’s actually made in Japan

Orion 75 Pilsner offers mild taste and crisp aftertaste developed in the semitropical climate. A crushable beer that exquisitely balances the taste of high-quality malt and aromatic hops, characterized by a rich depth of flavour, sustained but balanced bitterness, and a refreshing aromas.

Freebies! Taste test challenge: Co-Conspirators vs Bridge Road Brewing. Didn't have much time or space to take notes, I think it was a pale ales, then hazies, then IPA's. Round 1 was a clear win to Bridge Road, Round 2 was Co-Conspirators by a whisker, and Round 3 was Bridge Road in a photo finish. The sixth sample was handed out between Rounds 2 & 3.

Atomic Brewing. Mandy Sour, Pale Ale, Hazy Pale Ale, American Amber Ale, Tropical Milkshake IPA, and the piece de resistance, Vovo Whip Rasberry Sour.

IMG_20230519_152526480.thumb.jpg.8b718493b209afe59c0581d95ca07f05.jpg

Last but not least, from the Up Coming Brewers section: Breaside Brewing (I think), Pale Ale & Pilsener; and, Two Rupees Brewing, IPA & Coconut IPA.

And after all that I've barely scratched the surface.

Beautiful stuff 👍

The Landlord on cask, sampled locally, can’t be beat. The closer to the brewery the better (in Keithley in Yorkshire if I remember right). Even more so for Tetley (Leeds).

John Smith’s is a good Taddy brew, I lived there for a while as a kid. Also Sam Smith’s and (at the time) Bass Charington brew there. Bass is the equivalent of Mega Swill though

Looks good mate! I am thinking of going to the event in Brisbane. What are the prices like for beers? Or are those samples free? I'm guessing probably not. What's the go?

The prices vary a bit. The first paddle cost $14. Other samples, 100ml, cost between $3 & $5. The strengths varied between 3.5% and a little over 8% although there were stronger ones I didn't try and I believe some no alcohol beers, too.

The only free ones I got were in the taste test challenge, picture #6. That was a bit of serendipity. One of my mates went to the loo and while we were waiting for him one of the marshals suggested we go in.

i tasted a lot of beer yesterday also

started with a dark ale, then an xpa and followed that with the

IMG_0690.thumb.jpg.a04e565aa34ea9f4699b5fc0dd31917a.jpg

vintage ale sampler. for $12 got a pot of the current Vintage Ale (left) and an aged one on the right.

nifty fan over the bar made of old malt shovels too

over the rest of the day managed to get in a pacific ale (yum!) and the pale ale too at the place i was staying.

there were lots of promotions for cheap dark ale which i took full advantage of after the loss at the footy.

will definitely plan a trip over next year as well, loved my day in adelaide.

@Cheap Charlie I can confirm the container bar prices: any paddle of 5 x 100ml is $14; any 100ml sample is $3. This includes OTT strength beers such as the 18.1% ABV Imperial IPA. Single serve full glasses (250ml I think) were $7. Serving sizes of uber-strength beers were restricted to 100ml sample cups.

Another long post.

Started off with a (freebie) sample of a fruity Belgian lager from Brew Art (no pic) served from their very cool and funky little carbonating machine (imagine a coffee pod machine for beer) and a quick chat with Liam from the Cooper's DIY Beer videos and designer of the ROTM's. I entered the competition to win one. Remind me to get a pic tomorrow.

Next up was my first foray into the container bars.

13, St Andrews Beach Brewery, SAB Lite, lager; 9, Yenda Brewing, Rasberry Weiss; 10, B.O.B. Brown Ale; 18, Escape Brewing, Schwartzbeir; 5, The Marsden Brewhouse, Neapolitan Porter.

IMG_20230520_122621077.thumb.jpg.ebcaeb45b1eb8df6f4d5bbca8464e4bd.jpg

The queues in the container bars were long and slow early so I popped in to Little Creatures for a Stoutini.

IMG_20230520_125137290.thumb.jpg.463e755bbac3395ced3993fdef1e092c.jpg

Back into the container bar for another paddle. Chose the section with the shorter queue and selected beers on the fly while waiting: 42, Badlands Brewery, Saison/Farmhouse; 60, Squinter's Brewing (any relation @stquinto?) Hazy IPA; 46, Tallboy and Moose (local to me  microbrewery), Braggot; 42, Mismatch Brewing, Belgian Quad; 54, Working Title Brew Co, Choc Caramel Peanut Butter Cup Double Milk Stout (amazing, huge butterscotch aroma).

IMG_20230520_130954627.thumb.jpg.a4931eb1daed2acccae1c2a913287d4c.jpg

Back upstairs for lunch followed by a Cherry Stout from Cavalier Brewing while waiting for @ozdevil.

IMG_20230520_141414244.thumb.jpg.e36e9988f9497000a5d8ee7baf3f38cc.jpg

While there a couple of samples from Bent Spoke's World of IPA's: Sprocket; and, Cluster 8.

IMG_20230520_143707892.thumb.jpg.d97b6eece55118121a521a481485681c.jpg

Once more unto the breach: downstairs again for the container bar Festival beers. 27, Blackman's Brewery, Red Frog Rasberry Dark Lager; 23, Psycho Suzie's Brewing, Red IPA; 35, Five' 3" Brewing, Munich Dunkel; 40, Wolf of the Willows, The Snowball Effect, Pastry Stout (on the way to GABS, both days, I've walked past a little Wolf of the Willows van/hatch vehicle a couple of blocks away from home, had to try it); 39, Bright Brewery (someone on the forum visited there recently, IIRC), Drinkin' Donuts Imperial Jam Donut Golden Ale.

IMG_20230520_150308639.thumb.jpg.a40f2b617f5274a347994ef4481bef94.jpg

Last round and security were giving us the hurry up well before time, less than impressed. 16, Urban Alley Brewery, White IPA; 34, Black Flag Brewing, Imperial IPA (18.1%); 41, Breaside Brewing, Red IPA; 53, Merino Brewing, Imperial Black IPA; 57, Slipstream Brewing, Maple Bacon Pancake Stout.

I agree, the Orion is a good beer. The bottles are also heavy and would be suitable for bottling home brew, unfortunately I can't find anyone that stocks them. There is an importer, but I think they cater mainly for restaurant supply.

@Coopers DIY Beer Team Liam, do you have any photos of yourself and the Coopers stand at the GAB which you can post on this thread?

There is no Cooper's stand, at least I didn't find one and I made several laps of the venue. Liam was in the Brew Art stand. I was going to take a picture but then several beer paddles happened and I kinda forgot.
