I enjoy going around grabbing a few bargains here & there as you can pick up a few really nice brews, I avoid sours, fruity insipid things with all sorts of weird additions, gose & some of the new age wheat, hazy crap but you do pick up few nice pales/ipa/stout/lagers etc.

That’s true. I am always open to try something new.

I just got an email from BWS with this deal, I would probably say just keep it, I am not in to sweet, sickly fruity beers & they are only 300ml!!!!

Was talking to Hoppy about this the other day. A lot of breweries have jumped the shark. Getting away from the basics of beer altogether. Trying to outdo each other. Yes, NEIPAs, IPAs, Sours are nice in a a small dose. But some of the freaky crap that hits the shelves these days is an insult to pass it as beer.

Yeah, I agree when you go into a bottle shop these days a third of the Craft section is made up of all of that rubbish, particularly the beers that are made solely for Woolworths, BWS, Dan's, Coles, Liquor Land etc.

The rest of it from little two bob mini breweries that you have neverheard of.

Anyone wanna buy a brewery?

I heard about this place last year and thought it would be a good place to visit. This week I found out it's on the market so I thought I'd better get my skates on and pop in.

It looks great but it's in the unglamorous part of Reservoir. I'm not saying there's a glamorous part but there is definitely an unglamorous part.

I think it's too far north of the hipster line for what they are serving. Or, perhaps, a decade or two too soon.

Force of Nature, mixed cultures Farmhouse ale. Only my second ever farmhouse ale. I enjoyed this one more, partly because it wasn't sandwiched between a couple of other, more conventional styled beers, and also because, thanks to my recent research, when I read the description I knew to expect something unfamiliar.

Stranger on a Train barrel aged Golden Sour, with Yarra Valley apricots. My second ever sour, too, and probably for similar reasons I enjoyed it more than the first. I also think that apricot is probably more complementary to the style than the raspberry in the Berliner weisse.

Looks a bit deserted but would be a good starting point for a new owner with ambition to turn into something.

Aye. There was a couple in the bar/lounge area having lunch when I entered but see my comments above regarding location and styles. It would probably be rocking if it was somewhere south of Bell St near the other craft breweries.

I understand the current owners plan to set up again in a regional location.

Where is it as I am in Adelaide, so I don't know the area you are talking.

It's in Reservoir in the Nortern suburbs of Melbourne. The so called "hipster line" is Bell St which runs through Preston, the next suburb down. They are old working class and post war migrant suburbs. Gentrification is working it's way along the train and tram lines. There are a few craft and micro breweries in South Preston, including Moondog (Moondog world) which you may have heard of. Further South, in the same LGA, are Thornbury and Northcote which are considered hipster central, or the hipster capital of Melbourne.

It is amazing how these nitro 'thingies' work in these Irish Cans, well worth the wait, this is great stuff.

Really really enjoyable and smooth brew Phil. Theres an Irish Pub in Norwood that have Kilkenny on tap.

Its delicious, sit out on the Parade I think it is and watch the madness with a great beer. Norwood is not a bad little spot.

I know it but I can get it on tap at Glenelg including Guinness, my pilot mate & I catch a tram in to the city & go to the Brecknock Irish Pub sometimes & get legless.

I got these from my local (walking distance) craft brewery a couple of weeks ago. Silly me asked "what limited releases have you got?"

Hawkers Lucky 13 Bohemian Pilsener (layered for 2 months). It is nice, I'll grant it that, but it seems hard to justify that much on a Pilsener.

Hawkers Saint Hildegard Cold IPA. The girl at the brewery did not look amused when I said, "so, a hoppy lager?" Actually pretty good (didn't realize how strong it was until after I'd poured it).

My first ever saison, Hawkers Le Fruit Blackberry Saison. Yeah, ok, it's not a lambic, it's not a sour, it's something altogether different, but not dissimilar. It's actually not bad.
