Yeah mate they are good I grabbed half a dozen from the op shop probably like you🤣

No mate, I got a whole box given to me when I bought the Tap Handles from them plus the Highway Hotel had a promo for Sierra Nevada beers & the manager is a mate of mine & he gave me a box of promo gear, glasses, openers, stickers etc.

I love them for big Ales & Stouts.

Another Taste Test Challenge: Coopers Sparkling Ale from The O'Connorwery, a.k.a. 002, bottled 22/5/23, vs Sparkling Ale from Coopers Brewery, a.k.a. Coopers Red, Best After 7/8/22.

IMG_20230911_190618926.thumb.jpg.c63be2f7bfe75f350717fae6ddf39d57.jpg

002 had a smaller head which faded rapidly. Red, poured first, had a large head, good retention and plenty of lasting lacing. 002 had none.

002 had a subdued aroma. Red had a bready/malty aroma. Red had good, lasting carbonation. 002 was significantly flatter, I think this bottle probably only got one, maybe one and a half carbonation drops. It wasn't marked as an exbeeriment so I'm gonna blame it on my priming & capping assistant.

Red had a fresh malty/bready, bitter taste. 002 had a subdued maltiness and the bitterness overwhelmed the residual chloramine twang (this may have been assisted by the low carbonation).

Red was a far superior Sparkling Ale but 002 presented as an acceptable but unremarkable pale ale.

It's a wonder you didn't chuck the Coopers Sparkling down the sink being too old.

American Wheat beer 4 days in the keg and my first impression is this beer is dangerously smashable and would be awesome in summer! I used Simcoe the whole way through the boil and it just comes through to give a nice citrus note??? I taste the yeast just, so it plays nicely with the hops and malt! Nice beer interesting to see it in a couple of weeks! Head all the way as expected with over half the grist in wheat!

Not sure if I've tried the Carlsberg Pilsner before but at $16 for 4 x 500ml cans and a free glass, how could i pass it up. They are quite a nice refreshing Pilsner, especially today in Whyalla, when it's 30c.

See how these others go...probably tomorrow, never tried Bowden Brewing before, looking forward to it.

Cheers all 🍻

Don't be silly, there was nothing wrong with that one. Besides, it wasn't old, its only just had its first birthday.

Probably not the right beer to start the afternoon, but I couldn’t finish it last night.  Kept half a flip top bottle in the fridge.Lost a bit of its carbonation but retained its beautiful what I would describe as plummy, fruitcake flavour. It’s packing a punch (8.8%) and still poured with a beautiful thick head. For lovers of strong, heavy and flavoursome beers the “Tsar’s Tar” is a great recipe.

Coopers Genuine Draught

This is from a keg, whereas the previous tasting was a bottle.

Seems better from the keg.  Not sure why.  Carbonation is better.  Plus it is about 6 weeks between the bottled and the kegged taste.

  • Sweet-ish beer aroma plus some spice
  • Sweet flavour with mild bitterness
  • Good carbonation but modest head retention
  • Pretty reasonable brew
