Beer Baron
Drinking my Mosaic Pale Ale. I have just worked 13 days straight so these are going down well. It is 6 weeks old and in the last 13 days most of the hop flavour, aroma and bitterness has disappeared. BB
Beer Baron
My Bo Pils. A really solid and tasty beer. It has been kegged for approximately 3 months and has improved with age. It has a slight sweetness to it so I think next time I will mash a little lower to get it a fraction more dry. BB
Beer Baron
My first and probably last attempt at a Schwarzbier. After reading about Schwarzbier and deciding to brew one it tastes exactly how I expected it to taste.
The Captain!!
Soooooo had a massive win tonight. My wife was like, hey, can I have a beer? I said sure, what would you like? I’ll have the last James squire golden ale. Ok no worries hun. I said before that do you want to try my latest pale, it’s a bit young but it’s nice. So I poured her a half glass of my latest cascade pale. Thats really good she says, finishes her glass and goes to get our son out the bath. I pour her the JS golden into a glass. She comes back, takes a sip a asks “what the hell is that?” That’s your golden ale hun. Oh.... she replies bewildered...... I say, is my beer better hun? All I get from my (“I’ll never like your beer because it doesn’t come from a shop”) wife is “Damn it” I squeezed a high five out of her and danced around for about 5 minutes. I have finally won the war!
Pezzza
GOLD! Well done Captain. That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. (Neil Armstrong) https://www.space.com/17307-neil-armstrong-one-small-step-quote.html
The Captain!!
Ha ha ha she even told me tonight that I need to do another stout as this one ain’t going to last like long. We had a @Ben 10 Hazelnut Porter tonight. Gods honest best porter I have ever had. Refreshing, clean, hazelnut, tasty, nothing astringent about it. So clean and fresh. My wife said that she was very impressed and why can’t I make beers that good. After last night shes clearly taking the piss, however clearly Bens beer is next level. Pezzza
I dub thee.... Mongrel Lager. A Lager brewed with an Ale Yeast... ooooh.... Dirty old dex (some).... a Coopers Lager can (you all-grainers sigh)... some Coopers BE... extra hops... rainwater.... and bottled in a Flens Weissbier Swinger?! But I did for the very first time have temp control of me own (warming only) which has proven to be GOLD. So there she is... great fizz... good head retention.... and a bit of kick. Deffo can be improved upon, but not a bad start again after a protracted lay-off. Cheers Yee Brewers!
The Captain!!
So I found another 6 Brut IPAs in the cupboard. The beer is definitely to style. With a few more weeks conditioning it’s starting to loose the hop presence but still ok. I think the beer is well made I just don’t think it’s for me. Super carbonated ha ha ha
Pezzza
Captain luvyerwork and esp about the earlier J Squiries SWMBO stich up - luvyerwork - Gold!!! Is the above bottle brewed or kegged... just wondering whether the bubble sizes remind me of my higher temp earlier brewing career... for whatever reason... Somehow coming back to the fold I appear to have got pretty small bubble sizes in my slightly cooler Mongrel Lager... Or am I dreamin' ?

The beer is supposed to be highly carbonated to resemble champagne. That’s the reason for the big bubbles. Most of my beers have small fine bubbles just this one had a tiny bit more sugar added at bottling time. I’m going to do a few bottles with this carbonation for my latest saisons. I’m not sure it was even posted. Sometimes Ben just writes something like “hazelnut porter today” he did post something along the lines of a pecan porter which was linked to brewers friend I think. Pezzza
Cheers Cappo - just flicked him a request - be keen to see what the gen is - there are some hazelnut growers in the district - sorta think it would be festive to use local prod?! Pezzza
otherwise... have you any good hazelnutty suggestions - sounds like you were happy with the result?
The Captain!!
I think porter is a very good style of beer to add hazelnuts. Im really not sure how to add nuts to beer without getting the oils into the beer itself. Might be a good idea to research

BlackSands
Golden Toffee. I brew Golden Ales often - this one I included a generous amount of Gladfield's Toffee Malt. It's a bit of a fail clarity wise though as I forgot the whirlfloc and it certainly does appear to have made a noticeable difference. Otherwise a nice enough brew which really showcases the toffee malt.
Otto Von Blotto
Still nowhere near as hazy as the pilsners I forgot the brewbrite in . They looked like a neipa. Difference probably due to mine being made from a full mash. That one looks delicious though!
Hilltop hops
Drinking my centennial, cascade and citra hopped AG IPA. 3 weeks in the bottle now and couldn't be happier with it. Mrs tried it and thought the hoppiness was horrifying so I know it's good!
Pezzza
I do like the little swing-tops... but being able to pour a decent size beer... here in 0.5L German Weissbier glass... is a joy. Same beer, different glassware, different feelings Mmm.... probably would get hung drawn and quartered in Deutschi for drinking Ale Yeast brewed Lager in a Weissbier glass ?! Fortunately am in Australia!
Hilltop hops
Drinking a Coopers Stout I was given which I believe must be 10+yrs old given it shows 5cents for recycling. Can't read dates on bottle. Tastes real good, smooth as. Wish he had a few more stashed away.
