Otto Von Blotto
I like playing with better players too, it sort of pushes me to concentrate that little bit more and play better myself, but it's also educational seeing how they approach different situations, particularly out of position and around the greens. I've learnt a bit about that from watching a lot of the Euro tour and other events on TV too. I'm playing with one of the pros from the club tomorrow, he's great to play with so I'm looking forward to it. He's off +3 or 4 so I hope he goes low, even if I play ordinary it'll be great to watch. GregT5
I agree, playing with someone on a low handicap makes you try a bit more. Our group today had a 4 and a 10 handicapper in it and it was good to watch how they went about their round. Picked up a few pointers on how to improve parts of my game, especially around the greens. Just have to put it into practice now.
Otto Von Blotto
Yeah improving my short game is a lot of the reason for improving my scores. I practise it probably more than anything else, it's fun playing around with different types of shots, and I've gotten better at picking the right one for the situation. Also choosing the right option from trouble to take the big number out of play has helped make more bogeys or pars rather than doubles or worse. I've also improved my putting, mainly through focusing on trying to keep everything as still as possible and not to look up until after the ball is on its way. A while ago I adopted the Cam Smith long look at the hole before making the stroke and it has helped heaps with pace/distance control.
Otto Von Blotto
I played pretty well for half the round today, and absolutely crap for 6 holes on the back. Just ran out of energy in the conditions unfortunately. Might get some new insoles for my shoes before next weekend too. It was great watching the pro play though, he shot 66 with 7 birdies and 2 bogeys. It's funny how shots that I'd be happy with he's disappointed with. The consistency of the good shots is something to aim for, but without time to practise more it's probably out of reach really. I can hit shots like that, just not as often as I'd like. I did out drive him a couple of times though so that was cool 2
Otto Von Blotto
Bit ordinary on Saturday for 31 points, although I played better on the back 9. Yesterday was a bit the other way around going well on the front then stuffing up the back a bit before salvaging it on the last 3 holes. The double on 15 was the most annoying, I hit the drive out of anger after a heap of nonsense on 14 about 300 metres down the middle to leave around 90 to the pin, but hit two poor wedges and then 3 putted it. However, it should be enough to drop the handicap back under 9 whenever it gets processed through golf link.
Otto Von Blotto
Reasonable day today after a poor start. Lucky par on the first after a ridiculous sliced drive, then hit a tree with the second, punched the third just short of the green then chipped in. Sliced two drives on 2 into the bush for a quick wipe. Finally got my swing working on the 4th and after that I hit the driver fairly well for the rest of the round. Chipped in again on 17. Tomorrow I'm supposed to be playing at Brookwater if the weather behaves itself, that's a place where you don't want to be wild off the tee. Fortunately I have a heap of "retired" balls in my bag that I normally use for practice, so I'll probably use those initially at least.

GregT5
Last round for the year. A stableford round, finished with 37 points. Played pretty well, "chunked " a few 3 woods but recovered with a few good chips. Happy with that and collected on the skins so even better. Happy New Year to all the golfers here, here's to an enjoyable year on the course next year.
Otto Von Blotto
Brookwater last week got ruined by a storm after 6 holes, but I only lost one ball Played today with a delay at half way because of yet another bloody storm. I'd changed my tee time to the morning to avoid what was supposed to be the worst of the rain, and then it didn't even rain all arvo. Drove it well most of the round for once other than a couple of weird lefts on 17 and 18. I wasn't hitting my irons as well as I can but still managed to get around pretty well. GA down to 8.3 again, going for take two at Brookwater tomorrow morning, hopefully this time we get the whole round in.
Otto Von Blotto
Well the weather decided to be kind today, pretty much sunny with a few clouds around is all it's been so far, so we got the full round in around Brookwater this time. It was a bit of an up and down round, but I only lost 3 balls so that's not too bad. I probably could have had another 2 or 3 points if I'd putted better over the first third or so of the round - I didn't have too much trouble reading the lines, just kept blasting it 6 feet past the hole. Got that sorted and had a good back 9 outside of the wipe on 11. Overall though pretty happy with going past 30 points on a course I've never played, outside of the "practice" first 6 holes last week

I would've lost a box of balls in them.

I expected to lose about half a dozen but the fairways are actually wider than you think, and they largely funnel everything towards the middle. Apart from 3 bad swings I didn't have too much trouble keeping it in play 2
Malter White
@Otto Von Blotto The course looks in good condition. Was that area not affected by the recent heavy rains?

Must have good drainage, although the scorchers on Thursday and Friday probably helped dry it out

Summer has been avoiding Adelaide so far this year. Mid 20s most days. I'm not complaining though. I like those temps.

We're a 3rd way through our summer season makes ya wonder when this predicted El Nino and its effect will eventually kick in. From Dr Google; What happens during an el nino in australia The influence of El Niño is primarily felt in eastern Australia, resulting in warmer-than-usual temperatures and reduced rainfall. This combination not only heightens the risk of extreme heat but also elevates the danger of bushfires, particularly in southeastern regions.19 Sept 2023
DavidM
Finished the Golf year off with a GA 17.7 fairly happy with that, Played another crap round today so will probably nudge up into the 18's again. I think this is about my playing level, 17-18, it's a comfortable place to play, would take lots of lessons to improve on where I'm at. Play Well, enjoy the year ahead.
Otto Von Blotto
Reasonable 33 points yesterday at my home track for my first outing of the year. Should have been better after a +1 20 points front 9 but too many loose shots on the back 9 unfortunately. Today was really consistent for 16 of the 18 holes. And even when I did find some trouble I was able to get out of it and save par more often than not. Had an eagle putt on 3 but left it a fair bit short, trying to get used to the slow greens. Apart from the other two par 5s where I temporarily forgot how to play I'm happy with the day's play. I'm more annoyed at the 9th because I hit a great drive and second, but then stuffed it from there in some softer ground. In any case, it dropped the GA to a new low of 7.7. Kegory
The 1st at Bundoora yesterday Started by nailing long putts on the 1st & 2nd. Finished with nice drives off the 8th & 9th. With only very few exceptions everything else was rubbish. 2
Kegory
I also played a Summer 5:6:7 at Bundoora (5 holes for $6 after 7pm) with a mate on Tuesday. Across the two days I wound up with 6 more balls than I began with. 1
Otto Von Blotto
I've had a couple of ordinary sub 30 point rounds on Wednesday and Sunday, today I'm playing the monthly Friday black marker stroke event at Gailes. Last time I played one of these I raised the bat for a ton. Difficulty of the course is similar to my home track, I just played like a busted after parring the first four holes for some reason. Hopefully today will be about 20 shots better Edited January 11 by Otto Von Blotto 3
ozdevil
last wednesday someone thought it would be funny and make us play of the kids tee's which have been rated. had to play of a Handicap of 3 and only pulled out the driver on 4 holes , most par 4's and 1 par 5 was able to reach in 1 shot lol. the hardest hole on the course i eagled lol i wouldnr even come close of our white tee's alot of par 4's was 7 iron or less in except our longer par 4's mainly 13,and 14 where it was always going to be 2 shots in . i must say it was fun day just the same and made you rethink your game. however having said that our course has suffered alot of water damage due to the rain , but it held up surprisingly well, i was rather surprised they allowed carts on, if i was running the show i wouldnt have allowed, as there was alot of water still about under foot . at the end of the day i had 31 points playing of a handicap of 3 the only time i will ever see single figures 2
