Kegory Posted July 4, 2023 Share Posted July 4, 2023 It's been a couple of weeks so I guess this is an intermittent Taste Test Challenge: 001, bottled 6/5/23 vs Coopers Green, Best Before 25/3/21. This time it's the Last - 2 of 001. There was no perceptible difference due to its late stage in the bottling process. 001's twang has faded further, and the head, retention, and lacing were almost identical. Cheap Charlie Posted July 5, 2023 Share Posted July 5, 2023 Aussie Lager I kegged a few days ago.. tastes light on the flavour, probably could use a slight more bittering and aroma. It falls outside the category of American light lager as it has too much flavour but it is still much better than Great Northern . Kegory Posted July 7, 2023 Share Posted July 7, 2023 (edited) A couple of exbeeriments. 001, a skunking and carbonation exbeeriment: 1 x Coopers carb drop in a clear 500ml bottle exposed to electric light through a cupboard door which doesn't close properly. It's definitely under-carbonated: the head is smaller and dissipates quicker; and, it feels flatter. I can't detect any skunking but I can detect something. I think, for the first time, I'm actually detecting the acetaldehyde. 002, a carbonation exbeeriment: 2 x Coopers carb drops in a 650ml bottle. A massive head on the first pour. The beer itself has cleared up and it doesn't taste as sweet as it first did. The head retention is very good and the carbonation is great: this bottle of Sparkling Ale is living up to its name. I would suggest that you are right - that the coarse bubbles on top are not acceptable - but hey .... that's what I got for a pour before the sun went down.... my apologies... jennyss Posted July 8, 2023 Share Posted July 8, 2023 In 15 minutes, at beer o'clock, I will be drinking my Coopers extract Pale Ale jazzed up with BE2, LDM, and 25g Amarillo hops at mixing time, then 25g of Citra two days before bottling. I have been enjoying this brew. My husband is drinking Woolworths Draught extract with BE2 and 500g dextrose. He wanted to lift his ABV! Today we bottled my partial mash ROTM Old Town Lager. I have always used white sugar for bottling, I don't muck about with stubbies - too small! The smallest I use is 450 Grolsch bottles also 500ml Hefe' & 650/750ml glass bottles. The basic scoop has a small scoop for 375ml & a large scoop for 750ml bottles. The only difference i have found is in the head tends to be more tightly compacted with smaller bubbles when using dextrose for some reason. In theory it shouldnt make a difference to carbonation as CO2 is CO2 so no idea of the science behind it but its noticeable particulary on the highly carbonated belgian brews i do.
