Anyone buy a Guten?

Through nobody's fault at all, I just couldn't get hold of the 40L Guten. I ended up contacting numerous suppliers across Australia to try & get one, to no avail. With all the COVID-19 shit going on, just not available.....anywhere. 😞

I had a chat with Keg King on the phone, & they stated they would likely not be able to get hold of this model until possibly November! Given they are very close with the Guten's I had to do a re-think. Hmmmm.....50L Guten?.............YES. 🙂

I listened to the advice & practical experiences offered in this thread by a number of you guys & given how I would like to use the automated unit, this will be well worth the extra $150 - $200. The extra volume will allow me to pretty much no-sparge 23 litre brews. It will also create easier brew days when making higher gravity brews & allow me to do double volume brews (with some sparging) if I so choose.

The unit I have purchased has had some upgrades from the first version (that I like), & I also purchased a slight upgrade package that included a self temp adjusting refractometer.

Keg King - HEAD Brewer - Guten 50L Package

I'm on some annual leave next week so hope it arrives then so I can do some test runs with it hooked up to the Blichmann counterflow chiller, & then hopefully put my first full AG brew down later in the week.

I don't get excited about much these days at my age, but I am excited about this.

Thanks for all the advice offered to questions I have posed here. It has really helped in my decision making. 😎 👍

Lusty 2.0 here we come. 😉

Nice choice. Although this is too late Grain &Grape in Melbourne have the 40L on their website and I did pick one up last week from them.

Looking forward to trying it this weekend. It is an upgrade from my Crown urn which shorted out and died. Will get it repaired in the near future, just told SWMBO it died and needed a replacement so took an advance on my tax return to get te guten.

I apologise a little bit. I did find them through a couple of suppliers but they are charging $100 more than the typical price offered for this unit & IMHO cashing in on this limited supply. With the elevated price on the 40L unit it brought other options into consideration for me that I feel are not being exploited.

There is a lot of this "cashing in" thing going on atm across a broad range of products due to the COVID-19 issues. Just don't be sucked in to paying more than you should unless time-frame is important to you (IMHO).

Cheers,

Lusty.

No affiltiation or anything but G&G (where I got mine from last week in Melbourne) selling the 40L for the same price as as Keg King ($400 plus postage - but I picked up saving that bit) whom are out of stock at the momet.

Am really ticked off atm. Through some mix up, my order wasn't processed until this morning, that means I likely won't see the Guten unit until next week. 😒 That stuffs up this week for me. I took annual leave specifically to allow time to test & tinker with this unit & my chiller & possibly get a brew down. Now that isn't going to happen. I have a local order including milled grains, magnetic drive pump & tubing etc. to collect today or tomorrow that will just sit there now. 😞

Keg King were very apologetic so I suppose that is something, & S#!% does happen. I'm just tired of it happening to me.

Ohh well, I've got a nice beer to keg in a couple of days time to help drown my sorrows.

Cheers & good brewing,

Lusty.

That blows Lusty, few things annoy me more than not getting a delivery in time for time off, long weekends etc.

Hey @Beerlust does the Guten 50L need a 15 amp circuit?

  • 3000 Watt Heating Element

Yes. Schedule a tradie now and it might be ready whenever the Guten arrives. It has taken me months to get a tradie in to get a 15 amp plug.

Have you considered viagra?

Are you suggesting I need to make an adjustment to my water profile?

Unbeknown to me Keg King did me a big favour. They used an express courier.

IT'S HERE!!! Woohoo!! 😀

My turn to apologise. Thanks for making the extra effort to get me the unit before the weekend Keg King! Much appreciated. 👍

Test run on cooling through the chiller Friday or Saturday. All things going well, brew day Sunday.

Am happy as a pig in you know what right now. 😊

Cheers & good brewing,

Lusty.

You have no idea how anal I am about things do you guys? LOL! 🤣

As much as I'd like to just dive straight in & do a brew, I've spent a pretty penny on this Blichmann chiller so need to test it with the water re-circulation system I plan to use with it to make sure the temp is coming down to where it needs to be in the timeframe I'm aiming for. I've just realized I forgot to purchase the temp gauge to fit on the wort out side of the chiller, so back to the LHBS again tomorrow.

I've waited this long, so another day or so won't hurt. I just want the first brew to go smoothly & as planned.

Cheers,

Lusty.

You sound like a teenage girl on Prom night.

I know your first time is supposed to be special but now I can’t even remember my first AG brew day.

Hi guys.

I do have a serious question actually...

The base of these units where the element is housed, how well insulated are they? How much heat do they put out underneath & are they safe to sit on all surfaces? I have a long hard plastic fold-out table I plan to use on brew days that I would like to sit the unit on if it is safe to do so.

I would appreciate some experienced input on this one.

Lusty.

I'm not experienced in your product BUT I used milk crates under my urn.. Perhaps a shitty chopping board will be enough?
