Has anyone had any experience with Temu?

https://www.temu.com/au

I ordered a few cheaper items just to try them out, I have read a lot of reviews, good & bad, although you really can't trust any of them.

Please Note:

I am not meaning to rubbish them or discredit them, just wondering about your experiences with them.

The missus has purchased a few items from them, reasonably quick service, items seem to be good quality, she bought the granddaughter a blanket with her name all over it , very happy with it

My neighbours have bought a few smaller items from them, I ordered 2 different types of torches & an overhead re-chargeable light strip for the office.

If they turn out OK, there are a few other items I wouldn't mind.

I have never had a problem with Ebay & a few others.

Data issues with them

Yeah, I read all about that, it appears if you don't participate in their sill spinning wheel games & order from the app on Instagram or FB you can eliminate some of the privacy/data collecting issues. It is much safer to order direct online from their website.

I am afraid these days even the supermarkets even collect your data a some even photograph you on entry & track your every purchase in a bid to combat shoplifting.

you data issues started well before temu came along.

once smart phones  and AI   have taken over   your data and privacy are long gone.

our government already know your spending habits

its not uncommon  for banks to get incontact you  about your spending habbits.

i know someone  who has a bank account solely for betting only  so they can follow there horse they are a syndicate in
the bank  rang them  and said to them we think you have a major gamling issue     becuase they put $50 on a horse race  through tab

its very difficult to hide ya fingerprint online  and your daily travels  , as soon as you tap on a train ticket   , buy that morning coffee   , the moment you go to good times massage palour  etc  you are leaving your data

I totally agree, there is no such thing as privacy anymore, every online purchase, every app, every form/survey etc. are all collecting your info.

As long as you are vigilant & use commonsense you generally avoid most issues, as far as I can see, Temu is a genuine online platform without a physical storefront or specific location in Australia.

Apparently, it was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 2022.

There will always be a risk some of the items you purchase are inferior quality, even Ebay or some of the other bigger platforms.

About 6-9 months ago Temu ads started appearing on many of the sites I look at regularly on my laptop, eg Weatherzone. Many of the items and photos were offensive to me; nearly pornographic. I turned them off each time and made feedback complaints.  I can't even work out what lots of the items pictured actually are! But I haven't clicked to have a look - not once!

I have bought a few things via Temu, mainly tools. I have not had any problems with them at all data-wise that I am aware of. Delivery has been reasonably fast, considering it all comes from China. Prices are great.

Not sure about them being founded in Boston, as far as I am aware they are a Chinese e-commerce company.

@jennyss, if you have Weatherzone installed on your laptop, un-install it immediately as it's MALWARE.  🤬  My guess is that it loads at boot and probably has invited a few of its friends to come inside and join in the party.  You get nothing for free off the Internet, the developers of these apps want something in return of yours.  The Internet is not like watching TV, its the reverse, they are watching you!

Some suggestions.

  1. First is to download a malware checker and run it to clean up all the spyware / malware on your laptop, you will be surprised how much is in there.  Malwarebytes used to be a good one and yes it's free so as soon as you have let it clean up your laptop, done its job and you have re-booted, then un-install it too.
  2. Like I used to say to all my IT company customers, if you want to see what the weather is going to be somewhere then go the the official BOM website, or you could just look out the window 😁
  3. Each time you leave a website always clear your browsing history because the next website you go into will install cookies etc to purposely interrogator your browsing history and profile you so that ads etc will be slapped in your face depending on what you have been looking at in the past.  A control H usually gets you into that page.

Lets me know if the ads are gone after that exercise and what it finds please.

Well that what it says on their website. At the end of the day, I don't suppose it really matters, everything seems to come with China.
