Mate in my opinion cheap ingredients mean cheap tasting beer.

However, for those that want to go down that path, well & good. I personally never will but that is only my opinion.

Coopers have been making quality ingredients for 150 years at affordable prices.

I'm out.

Yeh, I don't need to use it. And not specifically recommending it. Its just another option. Perhaps for some a good option. Especially if it's a long way to the LHBS.

i've used it as a toucan ingredient many a times, can says made in australia (at least 99%) so it narrows down the factories it comes from. yeast is only 5g though.

Sometime ago this topic came up & I posted somewhere that I had been told by a commercial brewer that their range is supplied by Toohey's.

If this can be verified or not doesn't mean much but the fact that it sells for $6.47 should give you an idea what to expect.

Coopers Lager/Draught averages around $17-22.00 so there is another reason to consider.

I find Brigalow products to be poor quality, Muntons seem OK. Most of the others I have tried, Mangrove Jack, Black Rock are all fine & I still use them from time to time.

There is an old saying - you get what you pay for.

In all seriousness it’s probably fine to add into a brew and pimp up.
It would be even better if it was unhopped, then you could choose your own adventure taste wise.

Any idea what hops are in it? Any idea of IBU’s on the can?

That's my thought. Better than sugar.

here you go TB

draught can, described on the front of can as light amber colour, medium body, floral malty aroma with mild bitterness

ingredients: brewing concentrate: barley malt extract, water, hop extract. yeast sachet: brewing yeast

from memory the yeast is literally 1 number higher than the cooper's yeast that ships with the pale ale can.

i would pop the lid BUT the lid is an absolute nightmare to pop and every single time i need to resort to a flat head screwdriver and always manage to puncture the paltry 5g sachet of yeast.

Allergen advice: contains gluten

recommended brewing temp: constant temp btw 22-30c for six days until 1.005 (hydrometer recommended)

big bright red warning about grenades - glass bottles may explode if over primed or fermentation not complete.

date stamps on bottom of can are different to the ones on cooper's cans i know that much. i work in printing and am a bit of a type nerd so it's clearly different. can colour and shape is identical though and they stack.

I have to agree, this brings back memories of Saunders Malt (StooBrew) - probably cause nightmares tonight

The old saying is bollocks. Sometimes greed forces us to pay more than we need to.
The AFL paid Meatloaf half a million. QANTAS charges more than Virgin.
As one who has has experimented with the WW tins I've found them quite a useful tool in the home brewing armoury. They lack flavour but if used as @Oldblokesuggests they aren't bad.
I've made beers with them that I didn't particularly like but my son and his mates loved. They make a good base for experimental brews. WW tins + hop addition + tinned passionfruit pulp + dex makes a nice summer beer.

I done this almost every time I brewed a morgans beer kit. You would think they didn't want you to get the lid off.

Yep, I bought some specialised brushes on ebay last week under $2 each. In the shop in some fancy packaging, same item and quality $7.50.

It isn't always about greed., at times it has to do with econimies of scale or in the case of Woolworths and Coles it has to do with buying power and market force. Sometimes we need to pay more to ensure that the little gut survives. I personally aviod everything with a Woolworths or Coles label.

I certainly wouldn't say that because the Woolworths brands are cheaper than other brands that Woolworths are not greedy.

Cheers
