Beer Advent Calendars 2022

Kind of like "Todays Tastings" but with a festive edge.

Let me start off:

Beer Cartel 1st December - Range Brewing - Electric Relaxation - Oat Cream IPA

  • Citrus and pineapple aromas
  • Fruity and smooth flavour
  • Easy to drink
  • Banger of a first up in this year's calendar
  • 8.5/10

Beer Cartel - 3rd December - Deeds Brewing - Add to Batter Slowly - Imperial Pastry Stout

  • Aroma is smoky, roasty and strong berry fruit
  • Fair smack in the mouth flavours: Roast; Burnt/Smoky; Tart fruit; Port or Liqueur-like, but not alcohol burn
  • This one grows on you as you sip
  • Very complex and robust
  • Bitterness is not very noticeable because the other flavours dominate
  • 8/10

Beer Cartel -  4th December - Slow Lane Brewing - Whiter Shade of Ale - Belgian Witbier

  • Good aromas of spice, herbs, citrus, coriander
  • Unfortunately, let down a bit by mild flavours. Everything's pretty subtle: Malt, bitterness, herbal, spice (and no banana to speak or)
  • Luckily today was 33°C, so it went down very well after some yard work
  • 7/10
  • The can said to roll before opening to resuspend the yeast, so I did

Boozebud Day 4

Local Brewing Co - Pine Time West Coast IPA

The first of the beers specifically brewed for the calendar.

This one was a real surprise. The can suggests pine - which it has - but also has loads of pineapple. The most pineapple I've tasted in a beer before. Not something I'd do a big session on, but it was a really nice beer.

I hope you don't mind me tagging along, @Shamus O'Sean.

Not in the least Popo.  I encourage it.

Also, anybody else out there who has got a Beer Advent Calendar of some type, or even the Beer Cartel one like me, or the Boozebud one like Popo, feel free to post photos and comments.  It is interesting to get other drinkers views.  I am on a chat with 4-5 other guys who all got the Beer Cartel Calendar.  Reading their views is always interesting.  Only one of them is looking forward to seeing if there is a sour beer in the calendar (there will be...).  Plus those like @Uhtred Of Beddanburg might be encouraged to get one of the calendars next year.

I missed out on the Beer Cartel Calendar this year, I sort of hesitated about the price and then when I had decided it was sold out. 😂

Beer Cartel - 6th December - Akasha - Hop Actually - Hazy IPA

  • Tropical aromas with pineapple leading the way.
  • Higher bitterness with a lingering sweet flavour, I can only describe as like boiled lolly.
  • This is a brew where you wished you had bought 2 advent calendars for.
  • 8/10

Beer Cartel - 7th December - Ocean Reach Brewing - Peach & Pineapple Parfait Sour

  • Unmistakable aroma of a sour beer, with a hint of fruit in the background.
  • Very clever flavours. I think you can pick the peach and pineapple.
  • The haze and mouthfeel is from the oats.
  • There is a sweet creaminess from the lactose.
  • Those flavours really balance out the sour taste so it is more of a tingling on the tongue rather than a face pucker.
  • 8.5/10

Boozebud Day 6 - Temple Brewing - Okinawa Splice

A take on the Splice icecream. Not quite a Splice but I can see what they were going for.

A really interesting sour. Low on the sour/funky/yeasty flavour. A fuller mouth feel than a regular sour. Citrusy.

I enjoyed it. So did my partner and she doesn't really like sours. I'd happily buy this one every now and then.

Boozebud Day 7 - Sauce Brewing - Beer Selfie Oat Cream IPA

I've only had a few of this style before and this was as good as the others I've tried. Idaho7 and Sabro hops. Might give that combo a crack sometime. Worked in this one.IMG20221208180005.thumb.jpg.15b24c7fff298a49844ff70081f10967.jpg

It hid the 7% incredibly well.

Something is wrong with your phone mate 🤣

Beer Cartel 10th December - Kaiju! Beer - West Coast Double IPA

  • Another cracker tonight.
  • Aromas of rich stewed apricot and peach with a sweetness that promises a robust beer.
  • Strong flavour and bitterness as the aroma promised.
  • This one is designed for drinking slowly and appreciatively.
  • 8.5/10
