Shamus O'Sean
16 minutes ago, Popo said: Anyone crack their calendar yesterday? Beer Cartel - 1 December Mountain Culture - Wet Bandits Oat Cream IPA Aroma: Melon and tropical fruit juice. Tasting: Smooth creamy mouth-feel, some residual sweetness, bitterness comes through toward the end of each mouthful. Okay beer but not great from my perspective. 6/10
Popo the Reprobate
@Shamus O'Sean Almost my thoughts exactly. Was ok but a bit meh. It did drink nicely for 7.4% but I was a bit underwhelmed on the flavour front. Can was cool.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel December 2 Deeds Brewing - Lazy Summer Hazy Days - Oat Cream IPA Two Oat Cream IPAs in two days? Is that so we can compare them? Aroma: Citrus, mostly orange-like. Flavour: Reasonably forward bitterness. Fruity but more like beer than fruit juice. It has a nice aftertaste of a fruit I cannot pick. Better than yesterday’s version: 8/10
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel December 3 Mr Banks Brewery - Throw Pillow - Marshmallow Porter Aroma: Chocolate Flavour: Chocolate with a sweetness. Pleasant rich flavour. Reminds me of a Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows, only cold. Nice beer. 8/10 PS - I read the tasting notes and they actually add marshmallows during the boil.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 4 Garage Project - Someone Special Punchy citrus and peach aroma Fruity flavour. High bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Malty. This one is a beauty. 9/10
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 5 Jetty Road Brewery - Dank and Stormy - Black IPA Aromas: Pine, little bit of Chocolate and Smoke Flavour: Nice bitterness. Roasty, but a little bit too much. Seemed more like a Fruity Stout rather than a Black IPA. A fruity aftertaste made it better the more I drank. 8/10
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 6 Kaiju Beer - Tangerine Love Machine - Juicy Sour Aroma has that hint of sourness. It also smells like a freshly opened bottle of Vitamin C. Flavour has the same Vitamin C vibe. Sour with citrus. The sourness is understated, but creeps up in the aftertaste to make your mouth water. 8/10.
Popo the Reprobate
Ah - I've been a bit slack. But I have been drinking. I must be a hard marker. I haven't enjoyed them as much as you have @Shamus O'Sean. It's cool to read someone else's opinions on them though. Thanks for your reports The Deeds and the Mr Banks have been the standout for me so far. The others have all been a bit so-so. Looking forward to tonight's.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 7 Big Shed Brewing - Lupo Wheat Plenty of citrus aromas, plus pineapple, very tropical Higher level of bitterness for a Pale Ale. Lots of hop flavour, but not “juicy”. Well balanced by the bitterness. Modest ABV of 5%. You do not need high alcohol to make a really nice craft beer. 8.5/10
Popo the Reprobate
Amber's aren't usually my thing. This one didn't change things for me haha The German Hoppy Lager was a nice surprise. Refreshing and flavourful. I'd have another.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 8 Wayward Brewing - Dreaming of an Amber Christmas (American Amber Ale) Malty caramel aroma plus tropical notes. Hoppy fruity flavour. There’s something else I cannot place: Sweet, creamy, cake-like. Nice maltiness. Subdued but present bitterness. Unlike @Popo, Ambers are one of my things, so this was a bit of a disappointment. 7/10 Found out what the unknown flavour is: QR coded the link to Beer Cartel's tasting notes. It's Sabro hops.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 9 Hop Nation Brewing Co - St Nick’s Nightcap - German Hoppy Lager Quite a distinct lemony aroma. Similar lemon citrus in the flavour. Higher bitterness than usual in a German Lager. Fairly malty flavour. All combine to make an outstanding lager. It is really hard for a lager to shine in a Beer Cartel Calendar, but this one does it. 8.5/10
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 10 Ballistic Beer Co - It's a Cracker - West Coast IPA Bright tropical aroma with other underlying complex aromas. Similar strong fruity and piney flavour. Bold bitterness. It is a cracker. 9/10 PS, Corona being kegged in the background.
jamiek86
do u blokes buy the calender and get these beers yourself or get the calender and a 30 pack of craft beer? I googled it lot of copy cats out there and couple sites I saw was listing single cans from $4 up to
Shamus O'Sean
In my case, pre-order the promoted 25 can slab from Beer Cartel. One for each day in December. I got an email from them back in September. They usually sell out quick. Me and a couple of mates get the same one. We swap tasting notes and scores.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 11 Hawkers Beer - Solarism - Imperial Pastry Stout Distinct Orange aroma, reminded some samplers of an orange Zooper Dooper or a Sunny Boy. Flavour is a bit like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Other flavours Cinnamon, sweet, strong but not overpowering roastiness/chocolate. Certainly a lot going on. 8/10
Popo the Reprobate
The last few days. I'll leave the descriptions to someone much better @Shamus O'Sean but I enjoyed all three of these. I'd happily have the Blackman's and the Ballistic again. The Simcoe Cryo was pretty easy to drink. I wouldn't order another of the pastry stouts but it was an interesting drink.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 12 Blackman’s Brewery - Simcoe Cryo Pale Ale Tropical aroma. Can says “like you’re waltzing through a pine forest” but I don’t get that. Very drinkable. Crisp bitterness. Strong flavour. Some piney-ness with tropical hints, but that might just be a trick of the aroma. Good solid beer. 7/10 compared to the rest of the calendar. 9/10 for the style.
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 13 Nomad Brewing Co - Gingerbread Milk Stout Aromas of ginger, aniseed, nutmeg. Same flavours in the beer. Very sweet. I am going to have to sip this beer. This is very unique. Not sure I am sold on it. Could be 5/10, could be 8/10
Shamus O'Sean
Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - December 14 Mismatch Brewing - XPA Fresh fruity aroma with hints of honey. Clean taste. Well balanced. Fruity tropical-ness. I’m liking this the more I drink it. Bit of a fruit-tingle aftertaste. 8/10
