hughesy89
Hey guys, hope you all had a great christams! I brewed a Mexican cervaza a few weeks ago and have just cracked the bottles open after leaving them for 2 weeks to carbonate. There is very little carbonation to the beer, it almost appears flat I am using the 750ml plastic bottles and added 2 carbonation drops to each bottle. There was also brew enhancer 2 put with the brew as per the instructions. What could be the cause of little to no carbonation? Cheers guys. Titan
Maybe the temperature the bottles were stored. Another maybe leak from the caps. Store bottles above 18 and they should be fine unless the caps are leaking. 2 days after you bottle check and tighten the caps again.
MitchBastard
Merry Xmas to you too hughsey. Are the bottles firm at all? If they are firm but the beer appears flat once poured, it could be a glass issue. Ie dirty,  too warm or just a bad beer glass. More expireinced punters on here probably have more know but just thought I’d put in my 2c. Cheers
Gus96
I have used this kit a few times and I found that you need to wait for 4 weeks (3 + 1 week in the fridge minimum) to get better head retention and carbonation. While it may look flat it still should be carbonated after 2, glasses seem to have a big affect on this kit in my experience also.
hughesy89
Thanks guys! The bottles where firm when I put them in the fridge. I have another batch i have made that i will leave for longer before opening. I'll also try chilling the glass and maybe invest in some better beer glasses.  Thanks guys! Appreciate the help
MitchBastard
You can get headmaster schooner glasses for $3.50 online. One of those bad boys straight out the fridge and you can’t go wrong
Otto Von Blotto
Lack of head and lack of carbonation are different things. It can be fizzy and not hold the foam on top. Or it can be like the Boddington's I'm drinking now which holds a head all the way to the end but has hardly any carbonation. At this time of year temperature shouldn't be a problem unless you're in the northern hemisphere.
Walid
Hye Guys, This is a good subject and i would like to share my small experience with you. I have resolved this issue adding table sugar ( the normal white coffee sugar ) i put 5g/500 ML or more like 7/500ML and the result is really great , my beer has more carbonation and the result is simply great. i'm using the Soda plastic bottles of 1L and i use two coffee table spoon and it works. The best result i had is putting in the fermenter : the beer of your choise + 500 grams of sprymalt + 1 . KG dextrose and then 5g/500 ml. Try it you will not regret. Cheers
Otto Von Blotto
I reckon you'd get a better result if you switched the amounts of dextrose and dry malt. That's a hell of a lot of priming sugar as well, it'd be getting up towards soft drink level carbonation.

Malter White
I've done about 4 Mex Cerveza with the recommended BE2 and stuck to the recipe., not added hops or the like. Haven't had problems with carbonation but I've always done at least 3 weeks second ferment in the bottles. Head retention hasn't been great for me on this beer but similar beers like Corona and Sol aren't very foamy either, so I figured it's probably just a trait of this particular style of beer. It certainly tastes ok.

Love the headmasters. I have borrowed a few from my local and broke a few as well. I was given 6 heineken 425ml schooner glasses and they stack better in my kegerator. Can fit all 6 in the chute so i use those mostly.

I don’t have a problem with the headmasters. I rotate them and a few others. Being in QLD the beer is never in the glass to long anyway. I guess that frosting might insulate a little bit?  i havnt seen the TED ones but the jap restaurant I go to regularly has the frosted Asahi ones. Might have to drop on in the Missos hand bag next time we visit.
