Otto Von Blotto
Another addition to the brewery, a new bottle drying rack. Last year I found an old wine rack on the side of the road during one of the kerbside cleanups, and decided to take it and convert it into a drying rack for my bottles. There is nothing wrong with my current one, which is just a piece of wood with stainless rods in it which the bottles rest on. I just prefer the idea of nothing touching the inside of the bottles, which is probably overly anal, but anyway. I finally got around to actually doing this project over yesterday and today, and I think it turned out pretty well. It can hold 48 bottles. Marking out the holes: This drill press also doubles as my bottle capper. Being used for its intended purpose here, however: Tapering the edges with a router: It's hard to see but this has just been varnished: And, the finished rack: I do need to sand back some areas on the top of it and re-do the varnish as it got a bit of crap on it, but other than that it's ready to go. Hairy
Looks good Kelsey! Actually it looks too good for this forum. You obviously know what you are doing. I am not good at building things but spent a fair bit of time handling wood in my teenage years
Otto Von Blotto
Thanks mate! It wasn't all that difficult but yeah, I guess you do need to know a little. but spent a fair bit of time handling wood in my teenage years I think most blokes are probably guilty of doing that... rossm
Looks good Kelsey, I have a similar thing made from a trolley that used to be for storing files as in the type in a filing cabinet, I cut the bits of steel away that I didn't require and fixed an old aluminium road sign on to it, then drilled it out as you have, it is mobile and I can use it as a table for when I am bottling, mine holds 42 but if I got a new piece of aluminium and re arranged it, I reckon I could get 60 bottles on it. That would be good in the winter when I do double brews or if I bottle in stubbies (which is rare) As for the woodworking, I think there are still plenty of blokes on here doing that!......('specially blokes like me who have been married for 40 years...) Beerlust
Looks good Kelsey, nice job! I just wish I could be there to see the look on your father's face when he sees you've used one of his wine racks for the frame! Cheers, Lusty.
Otto Von Blotto
Of course, as the first post says it was found on the footpath somewhere. I did remove a heap of wine from the now brewing fridge in order to use it as a brewing fridge though!
Gibbo
You blokes are slipping -- I'm surprised this hasn't been said yet: Hey Otto... Nice rack.
porschemad911
I did remove a heap of wine from the now brewing fridge in order to use it as a brewing fridge though! I hope you put it to good use! Won't last long out of the fridge over summer right?
Otto Von Blotto
Gibbo. Cheers. I have no idea what happened to the wine to be honest. I hate wine myself, so it is no issue of mine where it went. When it was in the fridge, the fridge was never actually turned on anyway, so it probably hasn't made a lot of difference moving it really. peekaboo_jones
Very neat Otto! mine was a scrap job made from some 1970's particle board cupboards :-P I've got 3 now and together hold about 75 bottles, works a treat eh!

peekaboo_jones
... what's with the Pure Blonde and Crown Lager? Over the Christmas break I collected a shizenload of bottles from my local wedding venue! Ended up with over 400x750ml bottles! (Champagne, VB, Carlton, Pure blonde) and a mixture of 330/355/375's etc. It's safe to say I have some brewing to do! I usually use the 375's to give to friends or some of the guys at work as tasters, dont want to give up the tallies!
Otto Von Blotto
Well as long as it does what it's intended to, that's all that really matters! I have kept my old one just in case I ever have a heap of bottles that need washing all at once, but other than that I'll obviously use the new one.
