Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
I once had a glycol based coolant splash into my eye and it burnt like hell as bad as getting petrol in your eye to be honest. I hate chemicals in my food and I hate chemicals in my beer even more.

Otto Von Blotto
Yes, water itself is actually a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O. It's made up of molecules which each contain one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by a covalent bond. According to wiki anyway[lol] Sounds legit to me. Should just ask Dad, he used to be an industrial chemist.
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
If water is a chemical on its own that is a naturally occurring chemical artificial shite made by chemical companies is what I am against.
Otto Von Blotto
Yes and that's where people get muddled up. They hear the word "chemical" and immediately assume it must be some kind of artificial man made compound or substance. Which of course is a load of crap; there are plenty of naturally occurring chemicals on and in the earth.
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
I see where you are coming from, but I shudder at the thought of synthetic chemicals in my food/beer and with those PHA stuff having anti freeze in them instantly turned me off I might as well go get a bottle of Tectaloy coolant and put that in my beer. Otto Von Blotto
[lol] [lol] ah just keep making beer from the ingredients you've always used, then there's no need to worry. I doubt hops pellets would have any of that crap in them.
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
To prevent your beer from boiling in summer and to prevent your beer from freezing in winter simply add Tectaloy

Otto Von Blotto
Depends on the chemical I suppose. Not all man made ones are harmful. It's a matter of weeding out the bad ones I guess.
Hairy
What about: Ethanol - naturally occurring and causes liver damage. We still ingest it in copious amounts. I guess you do know what that is doing to you though and you make a choice.
Otto Von Blotto
[lol] That's true. Same as tobacco I guess, it's a natural plant, burning it is well, a man made idea but a natural process, producing natural chemicals which harm people.. but people still do it. Yes they do add crap to them as well, but smoke in itself is harmful, whatever it is produced by.
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
Funny you mention tobacco yes its harmful etc but what is ironic natures own cancer killer and medical marvel the Hop plants distant cousin is illegal. But if its bad its legal makes no sense.
Otto Von Blotto
If alcohol and tobacco were discovered tomorrow, they'd be instantly made illegal. The only reason they are legal is that they've been around for donkeys years and to outlaw them now would cause World War III. As for the other, I agree with it being illegal, we already have one legal substance to impair judgement and cause problems... we don't need any more. *****
I have to tell you Otto, probation will never work. I reckon I could brew my way right through it, just like the boot leggers of old.
Otto Von Blotto
[lol] Yeah exactly. I mean, you could make alcohol with a bit of water and sugar and some yeast. Or just mix up some sugar and water and leave it sit uncovered somewhere and pick up a wild yeast and start fermenting, like my test tube of wort did. It might not taste too awesome, but it would be alcohol. Would they ban people buying sugar, or yeast? I highly doubt it. So yeah, it wouldn't work at all. Plus the governments make a crapload of money off it[rightful]
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
I don't want to start a huge debate on hops cousin but booze kills thousands each year not including drink driving however hops cousin has caused not 1 single recorded death but the pill companies don't want the plant to be legal as it will put them out of business in america cancers are being cured with hops cousin and various illness's are being managed or even cured. The cost of prohibition is costing billions each year and yet plant is still winning.
