Jarvo_325
Hey For my next homebrew I want to make nice rich tasting STOUT. The Stout I normally drink is Cascade Export Stout. Does anyone have some good recipes for a Stout that isn\u2019t AG as I\u2019m not quite ready to go down that track. yet. I would like the Alcohol % to be around 5 or higher is fine Should I use the OS Coopers yeast or should I buy something else? Should I buy a Coopers BE# 2 plus add some malt? Or something else Should I dry hop? If so what type of hop will suit a Stout. Any recipes or ideas will be appreciated.
Biermoasta
An often mentioned recipe for a nice strong flavoured stout is: 1 Coopers Original Stout 1 Coopers Dark Ale 1kg Dextrose Made to 23 litres with both kit yeasts I've only heard good things about this recipe. I've made similar batches to this recipe, just varying the ingredients slightly from this original recipe, and they have come up great [love] But no doubt the above recipe will produce an excellent rich tasting stout [biggrin]
rossm
I have made a version of the above recipe deleting the dextrose and substituting it with 500gm LDM and made to 20litres which is a nice drop, you will benifit from conditioning as long as possible say 12 months. It is a brew which suits my taste....in fact I am about to open one as we speak!
Muddy Waters
I wholeheartedly endorse the recipe Biermoasta suggests. It's great [love] (and very easy...and very volcanic).
jasond4
Heres one I have been enjoying for some years and it never seems to fail me or anyone who tries it. Although I've changed the hops from Cascade to Galaxy, I think they work well for the style. Coopers Original Stout 1.5kg Coopers Light liquid malt 400gms Dark brown sugar 300gms Chocolate malt -steeped in 3L of water at 70C for 20mins 15gms Galaxy hops boiled in the steeped wort for 15mins 1 pack US05 yeast

This toucan stout is a winner.
Jarvo_325
Does Stout take a lot longer to condition than say a Draught or lager?

Matty A
I love that toucan recipe that was mentioned above. It is my go to beer and I always have some of these ready to drink. I also substiture the kit yeast with recultured coopers yeast. Can't get enough of it.

Muddy Waters
Not sure how it would turn out at 20L but I'd highly recommend doing it to full volume and put the excess in bottles and hide them away somewhere. It'll get better and better by the year [love]
