Now I want to make an english bitter. Coopers eb can+ 1kg ldm + 300g dex and dry hop 15g ekg+15g fuggles. Guest
yep, its a good kit and better with those hops. You wont regret it. Keep in mind though that english beers are 'mostly' malt driven.. brew to taste though and who gives a toss [bandit]
olyeastyknob
what do reckon about 1 carb drop per bottle Yob? 740ml that is
*****
I'd just go with the EKG dry hopped. I did that with my best English Bitter (4.0 recipe link in my signature). My current EB is hopped with Willamette (an Australian replacement for the Fuggle) and the jury is still out. Either way at the moment I would have to say the EB with EKG was better. Hairy
When I used carb drops I only used one per 740 ml bottle for English Bitters. It works well.

olyeastyknob
did you reduce the ldm because of the crystal? I added 250g crystal to some of my pale ales , I think that tasted less water or added more body to the beer. does that sound right?

Just used less LDM for cost saving measures wanted to use 1kg and no dex but instead used 500g LDM and 300g Dex, The Crystal malt adds more body to the beer so its less watery and freshens the kit up a bit. olyeastyknob
Ive only done 10 brews and been happy with them all except the first lager that came with the kit but already thinking biab as ive done some research. Is it really that much better as everyone says

olyeastyknob
yeah thanks fellas although I like hoppy pale ales Im sort of leaning towards a creamy smooth less carbonated beer.Is there anything I can do to make it creamier, smoother? Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
Not this particular recipe but am very familiar with Fuggles the smell of the fresh wort was amazing and the hydrometer sample tasted quite good have a fair idea how it will turn out I will report back when I sample one but used the same hopping regime in a porter which turned out very well. olyeastyknob
thats a fair bit of hops for a porter isnt it ?. I mean i am only new to hoppy beers and I VE REALLY ONLY DRANK PALE ALES FOR A long time but I sort of cant imagine drinking beer without extra hop flavour but I am just unsure how other styles of beer would go . I guess I need to experiment and find what I like. Im glad others have had good results with stuff Im keen on trying. Last brew I did an coopers pale with bsaaz, cascade and nelson.15g of each for a 15 min boil with 300g crystal but split the boil between 2 tins in seperate fermenters 23 litres and ikg ldm each. Id never boiled hops before(pellets) and I strained the first one into a seive with no cloth or anything.Man alotta green hop crud went into the fermenter. Anything to worry about? Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
Not really IMO I find Fuggles to be not as pronounced as Cascade etc should of tried my sparkling ale with cascade, chinook and amarillo was yum, With the hop crud it will settle when i do boils i strain it out but some still gets through it settles into the trub no worries
Otto Von Blotto
Most of that stuff will probably just settle into the trub at the bottom so it shouldn't be an issue. The BIAB is good, I have only done one brew so far, and it's still cubed waiting to be fermented. It was certainly an interesting process, and I'm sure after I get a few brews under my belt I'll figure out ways to get it from grains to the cube a bit quicker. Looking forward to mixing up an AG version of my Amber Ale possibly on the weekend though!

olyeastyknob
This brewing caper is so addictive,I love it. I got 3 fvs going now and keen to try some different types of beers.ordered 3 pounds of hops.cascade, cluster and zythos blend. cant wait to experiment. Thanks for help
Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
Once you get the Hop bug it gets to you and adding more and more hops seems natural lol I love my hops the more the better plus it makes your beers age real nicely
Otto Von Blotto
Yeah I recently ordered 3.5 pounds of hops from America. I got Fuggles, EKG, Willamette, Cascade and Hersbrucker. It was way cheaper and while I do like my beers moderately hoppy, they should last me a fair while. I'll probably jump on and order some more soon. Wayne (Captain Yobbo)
I don't know the conversion I know there are 16 ounces to a pound not sure what it is kilo or gram wise except ounces have 28 grams cbf with working it out but there is a bloke on ebay selling kilo's of hops for $45 including shipping and is an Australian seller
LordEoin
i made one batch with Fuggles and one batch with EKG. I prefer the fuggles by a mile, but it's just a matter of taste [happy]
olyeastyknob
Im gonna throw both in.Im sure it will end up being enjoyed sooner or later.
Otto Von Blotto
1 pound is about 454 grams. It's about 28.4g to an ounce, but who's counting? [lol] My order was about 1.6kg of hops. It was $42 + $17 shipping but still a crapload cheaper than any brew shops here.
