King Ruddager
The guy at the LHBS told me that grain bags could easily be cleaned by running them through the dishwasher. Well as it turns out he's a LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE - it didn't really seem to work. Anyone got any tips on how to do this? I'm guessing that as the grain extract water stuff gets boiled anyway it won't need to be completely sterile, right? Seems like the best thing to do might be to simply let it dry, pull out all the remaining grains and then soak it for a bit ... yesno? Can you tell I'm just getting into specialty grains from my latest threads? Also, if you're a guy that works at a LHBS and sold a bearded man a grain bag on Saturday then please know that I didn't really mean the liar thing. Guest
1: turn it inside out and hit it with the Hose nozzle on spray. 2: Give it to the missus 3: Put it in with the missus's undies and bra's in the wash 4: Kitchen sink and rinse it out Some of these options may work better than others [smile] [whistling
Hairy
I started with option 4 and then did options 1, 2 & 3 after my last batch and it worked fine. But its the big nylon bag from Craftbrewer: Bag Usually washing it with a hose works fine for me but I noticed a very slight build up in the weave. So it went into the washing machine. GrahamB8
I dont use a bag Steep the grains loose in the pan. Use a kitchen strainer and transfer to second pot after steeping. Sparge the grains over the second pot whilst there still in the strainer. I dont get the whole grain bag technique unless your doing biab of course
Guest
I give mine a quick rinse in the laundry sink. After 3 or 4 brews I'll rinse in the sink then put it in the washing machine.

LordEoin
If you're talking about a muslin bag, I clean it just like a sponge, rinse and squeeze, air dry. Don't ring it out though.
