MarkC
Five days ago I put down a Red Ale brew, based on an OS Real Ale tin, and the krausen in the FV is still huge! Is US-05 a beast of a yeast, or have I somehow created a monster? I've only done 6 brews to date, and apart from the usual toucan stout volcano, the others have been fairly gentle affairs. This is my first time using this yeast. Cheers, Mark.
Soundawake
Krausen is very stubborn with US05. Sometimes it doesn't go away at all.
Greenyinthewestofsydney
My Fav yeast for Pale Ales and IPA's. Always gets a decent krausen and yes it takes a while to fall away. You won't be disappointed with this yeast.
Otto Von Blotto
Yep sounds pretty normal for US-05 in my experience too. It does vary in size but it usually hangs around for a while.
Morrie
I currently have 2 Coopers kits (Bootmakers) in the brew fridge at the moment and both were pitched with US05. They both took 2 weeks for the krausen to collapse to the point of looking like someone had spat all over the top of the brew. Now doing a 5 day dry hop at 14ºC and then followed by a crash chill for a week.
MarkC
Thanks guys, much appreciated. Just tasted the brew, lovely flavours that seem to come from the yeast.
BlackSands
Day 8 here with a US-05 brew - still has a persistent krausen.
MarkC
This morning I put a porter recipe in the FV, just dumped it on top of the red ale trub. A few hours later, I checked on progress and that magnificent US-05 had thrown a big krausen over the mix. I am liking my new relationship with this yeast.
