harviek
Just finished enjoying a 2012 Coopers Vintage and thought "how on earth can I formulate something similar at home?" So I came up with this. Any tips hints or thoughts appreciated. 1.7kg Australian Pale Ale beer kit 1.7kg Real Ale beer kit 300g LIGHT MALT, 200g DARK MALT, 250g DEXTROSE, 250g MALTODEXTRIN 60gm centennial dry hopped
Hairy
Here are the tasting notes for 2012: Coopers Vintage Ale 2012 - Tasting Notes I would start with the base in the How To Brew section and then add some late additions of Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Cascade. Probably add some crystal malt too. Maybe PB2 could shed some light on it.

Thanks for that Hairy, so what you're talking about is something like: 1.7kg Australian Pale Ale beer kit 1.7kg Real Ale beer kit 1kg Dextrose 250gm Crystal malt 25gm Nelson Sauvin, 25gm Centennial and 25 gm Cascade. Hairy
Yeah. You just need to work out how you will use the hops. A 10 minute boil or dry hop or a combination of both.
Guest
Maybe PB2 could shed some light on it. Not if he still wants a job tomorrow he won't! [lol] [sideways] [tongue] [biggrin] Don't expect a bite from PB2 on this one, no matter what bait you use! [lol] Beer.
PB2
This recipe will produce heaps more late hop character than the commercial 2012 Vintage carries - should be an excellent brew to drink young and develop with bottle age. [cool]

If you ask nicely, PB2 is always good for a nudge in the right direction.
Guest
I'm guessing PB2 is about to go through a metamorphosis like Will Amette did recently! [whistling Beer. [wink]
DylanI
Hey harviek Please keep us up to date on your progress on this one. I am VERY keen to see how it turns out. I'd like to try something similar once Centennial hops come back in stock at my local homebrew shop. Yep, really looking forward to making this monster-of-a-beer. Also, Beery, you can change your name on the forum, but I don't think you can change the year you joined, or your administrator status. He's always watching... -Dyl
Sticky Wicket
I had exactly the same thought, how do I brew something to emulate the 2012 Vintage Ale. I put down the following brew and are yet to bottle, most likely bottle next weekend. 2 X Muntons Barley Wine 500 grams LME 250 Grams DME 250 Grams Maltodextrin 500 Grams Dextrose Coopers Vintage Ale Commercial Yeast 23 liters filtered water OG 1068 I will let everyone know how it comes up, I am expecting the longer in the bottle the better.
