Greetings everyone love beer and am about to make my first batch of lager that come with the kit. What will make it have more alcohol?

Also I have another question is yeast a plant?

One more question I am considering making a chocolate porter I was wondering if I could use Maltesers as a base malt for this recipe.

Thank you

Welcome to the forums mate.

To answer your first question you can do a couple of things.

You can add more fermentables or you can reduce the quantity of water you add.

If you increase the gravity of the brew (which will increase the alcohol) you must increase the yeast cell count.

Personally I wouldn't try to get to complicated for your first brew you will likely get a bad result.

Yeast are not plants there a fungus.

No you cant use Maltesers as a base malt for a Porter though Im not discounting Maltesers as an ingredient for brewing [biggrin]

a bag of DME dipped in choclate will give you a massive malteser i guess [lol]

You should be ok to do that Lager with 23L of water instead of the 25 the instructions say, which would up the alcohol a bit. It's probably set at 25 because you'll test the gravity heaps of times on the first one, like I did [joyful]

I am a botanist. Yeast is a plant! [innocent]

I saw a youtube video of someone making a stout and they added a bar of chocolate. Maltesers might work as an addition, but not as a base.

I wouldn't risk it though... Learn to walk before you learn to run off a cliff!

I think the Lord is being facetious and paraphrasing someone we know

I was going to, but i left it alone [lol] the good Lord is further away

And, from the instructions on "Lawnmower Lager"

2. Fill fermenter with cool water to the 25 litre mark and stir.

Yeah, I was never any good at following destructions. Aren't destructions are only needed when you get stuck [whistling [unsure]
