Otto Von Blotto
Ok cool, thanks Bill. Maybe just mix up the sugar and water and let it cool down to about that temp before mixing in the gelatin sounds like the go. What happens if the water is too hot? Guest
TBH, I can't remember [pinched] However, I remember reading it numerous times but that was so long ago now. I'll have a look in my notes when I get home. (I'm at work atm) You need to let it sit for about 5-10 minutes also. This allows the gelatin to bloom. Basically what I do is: 1/ desolve 1 teaspoon of unflavoured gelatin in approx 150ml of about 70C water 2/ Let sit for about 10 minutes 3/ Pour into empty keg and rack beer on top 4/ Give keg to Obelix and gas as usual
Otto Von Blotto
Cool as. Yeah I will let it sit, what I normally do when I mix my priming solution is let it sit in a pyrex jug with gladwrap over the top of it, and wait til it gets to room temp or near enough before I mix the beer into it in the FV. I don't know if this is good or bad practice, but I do it anyway.
LyleC1
Okay..I'm one week into the carbonation phase of my first cooper's based batch, with my temperatures holding at 18.3C, using the yeasts from the can and also using the Coopers sugar drops. I tried a taste (of course) as I was bottling this batch and it was darned tasty already! Since this is my first shot at cooper's, do you have any thoughts on how long it will take for carbonation to complete at 18.3 C?
LordEoin
2 weeks should get you fizzed up, but the longer you leave it the better.
