GREAT way to keep fermenter sealed: PETROL GEL

Hi all\u2014I always learn so much from you, so I thought I'd return the favor by letting you know about a great product that I have been using to keep my fermenter perfectly sealed. It is a food-safe petrol gel that I apply to the o-ring in the fermenter lid and around the airlock washer. Since I started brewing I have tried many ways to keep a tight seal on my fermenter including using bricks, clamps and weights... turns out the best solution comes in this little tube! Here is a link: Petrol-Gel Sanitary Lubricant

not many of us here use the lid or the airlock mate, we use cling wrap over the top of the FV held in place by the rubber O-ring from the FV's lid, this eliminates the need for an airlock, gromet, lid etc.

Hope this helps you save some money, time, cleaning effort.

I don't think you actually need a tight seal when you use a lid and airlock.

You really just need to stop dust and germs getting in and for the Co2 to escape.

The main drawback is that your airlock won't bubble and make pleasant noises.

When I used to use a lid, I could never achieve a tight seal and never once heard my airlock gurgle. It made it easier to dispose of the lazy bastard[devil]

And I never had any problems resulting from the lack of a tight seal on the FV.
