BakersAle
i can get my hands on fresh bakers yeast wondering would it work in the home brews and how much of % would i need to use
Matty A
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but that like asking if water and sugar would make beer. It would make alcohol but I doubt that it would taste very good, otherwise Coopers would have just shipped this type of yeast with there kits. Guest
No probs mate... to elaborate and give a more in depth answer, quoted from Wikipedia: The most common top cropping brewer's yeast, S. cerevisiae, is the same species as the common baking yeast.[35] However, baking and brewing yeasts typically belong to different strains, cultivated to favour different characteristics: baking yeast strains are more aggressive, to carbonate dough in the shortest amount of time possible; brewing yeast strains act slower, but tend to produce fewer off-flavours and tolerate higher alcohol concentrations (with some strains, up to 22%). Snags
Capitals and full stops might help too, instead of a line of text that just blends into one long word. . .[sideways] But I'm just a fussy bastard[wink]
