stquinto
G'day all, I fancy making a Return of the Red IPA but I can't get hold of a can of Inkeepers Daughter Sparking Ale. Between a Australian Pale Ale kit and a Real Ale kit, what would you suggest ? I would have thought the Real Ale looks closer to the colour, any ideas ? Cheers, and happy/hopppy brewing
jamiek86
I reckon real ale Is closer to the bitterness as well mate I'd go for that might just lack the premium malt otherwise close.
stquinto
@jamiek86 cheers mate, will give that one a go Got the makings of Coopers Australian IPA (have to change some of the hops, can't ger Eclispe or Enigma here), an Authentic IPA, a Vintage '21 and the Return of the Red. I'm going to do an extract of Timothy Taylors' Landlord (the last I did had its hops fade pretty quickly, but I've found a recipe with a bigger dose, and some Fuggles in it too), and a Theakston's Old Perc. Keep me going for a while, until the winter comes, and it'll be time to get cracking on the Pilsners with some dubbya...
Tone boy
The real ale is closer to the bitterness. The Australian pale ale has the same EBC(90), but lower bitterness (about 1/2). You could use the pale kit and build up the bitterness if you want.
