Jeff53
I've just bottled a Coopers Draught plus a pack of Enhancer 2 added. Tastes good, but ABV will be 5.76% by my calculations. 1050 SG, 1010 FG + Carbonation drops. Would it be detrimental if I added 2litres extra water to my next brew. Looking forward to many special brews. Jeff
Malter White
Your original gravity reading looks high. Did you make it up to 23 litres?
Otto Von Blotto
Yeah in 23 litres the OG would be about 1.038 from those ingredients. Dropping the volume down would increase the OG.
Malter White
In the absence of a response from Jeff, so far, I wonder if he's made his brew to only 21 litres and hasn't included the 2 litres of hot water used to dissolve the ingredients in his total? Otto Von Blotto
Either that or the extract wasn't fully dissolved and gave a false high reading.
Jeff53
Thanks for the replies. I did use 23 litres of water and bottled 29 750ml and 1 350ml bottles. It could be that the ingredients were not fully dissolved. The sample was taken from the bottom and was very cloudy.
Lab Cat
OG is definitely out, a kit and BE2 won't get that high. It'll be around 4.3%. Always give your wort a really good stir during mixing and after topping up to 23l.
Otto Von Blotto
Yeah from the actual OG of 1.038-39 to the 1.010 FG it'd be about 4.1-4.2% ABV in the bottles. A useful figure to remember is 1.038-39, as pretty much any 1.7kg kit plus 1kg dry fermentables will result in that SG when mixed to 23 litres. It's a good thing about extract brewing, you can easily calculate the OG from the grams of sugar per litre.
