Gag.Halfrunt
Just constructed a toucan stout, however i accidently used a can of Real Ale instead of the dark ale (Bloody Coopers! they should know stupid people like me are using their product and adjust their can colours to not be so similar) Anyway I reckon it will probably come out nice anyway. Anyone tried this combo before?, Stout, Real Ale and 500g dry dark malt.
Smashed Crabs
Can't see why it won't be ok. The dry dark malt should compensate for the dark ale a bit. Let us know how it taste .. I was considering something similar but using a lager in place of dark ale cause well .. iv got 4 of them lol.

PaddyBrew2
Good to hear What’s it tasting like. I found the regular toucan way too malty for my tastes even after leaving it settle for six months

Head retention excellent also. I would recommend give it a go. (Beware it comes out at a calculated 6.5% abv, maybe 7 when priming sugar is factored in)
karlos_1984
How did this turn out? I've got a can of real ale in the cupboard and was thinking of using it instead of buying a dark ale
