German Style Pilsner

G'day Adam and Hairy, no i cant say i remember having a wheat beer in the past. Apart from Guiness and Kilkenny, magaswill has always been my staple. I have read a lot of reviews about Dunkel today on beer advocate, and judging from the glowing appraisals, i thought that this would been a beer that i realy enjoyed.

At last nights tasting both Nardi and I thought that it had been smoked...Chad uses toasted or smoked timber chips in one of his recipes. Neither of us had had a beer like this before and the flavour was quite unexpected.

When you say Dunkelness hairy, what are the charicteristics?

I was really just referring to the dark malts (in a wanker kind of way). There are lots of variations but a dunkelweizen is generally a hefeweizen with dark malts of some sort.

I guess I was asking whether it was the wheat beer itself or dark malts that you didn't quite like.

Get yourself a hefeweizen and try that. The Weihenstephan is a really nice drop but I also have a soft spot for Schofferhofer [love]
