weggl
I am reading “A Bastard of a Place” by Peter Brune. It is the story of the battles at Kokoda, Milne Bay, Gona, Buna and Sanananda in Papua. Battles that my dad fought in. Apart from that there is a mention in the book of Lieutenant Cooper, I will quote. “The new commander of the 2/27th was Lieutenant Colonel Geoff Cooper. Cooper was of the well known family who brewed beer of the same name. He was first of all courageous, no question of that. He was competent: he was well trained and he’d already shown his ability with the 2/10 Battalion over in the middle east. He was compassionate; he had a great feelings for his troops, although he didn’t show it.” As I have not finished the book, I don’t know what happened to him or if he is mentioned again. Maybe the family could shed some light as to if he returned from that hellhole. Please give this at least a few days before it gets shovelled off to Siberia.
