PB2
The GB kit + 1 kg of sugar, made to 20 litres should get down to around the 998 to 1002 mark.[biggrin]

MikeyBycrikey
Does the coopers ginger beer calculate the same as liquid extract? Trying to work out what my og should have been for tin/.5kg white sugar/.5kg brown sugar/ .5kg dme mixed to 20L. Spreadsheet fudgery suggests 1.045 from memory, actual reading was more like 1.

When i get home from work, i will check my brew book and tell what sg i got. It shouldnt be a lot different to what you got. Nick
MikeyBycrikey
Thanks mate. My little brother and I seem to get different hydrometer readings than what computer calculations suggest. Not sure if we're bad at stirring/reading/using MS Excel.

Otto Von Blotto
The reason for the difference may be that the GB kit is only 980g as opposed to 1.7kg.

Otto Von Blotto
20L would increase the OG though rather than decrease it. Mikey's recipe is basically 1.5kg of dry fermentables plus half a kit tin so it's not surprising that it's lower even though it's only 20L. Nick
unless he made it to 23ltrs instead of 20ltrs out of habit. Brewcraft comes out at 1037 when made to 23ltrs
Otto Von Blotto
That's a possibility. If I wasn't about to hit the hay I'd have a look on my spreadsheet but I'm too lazy to bother now. [lol]
MikeyBycrikey
Def around 20L, 21 tops. Brewing in plastic jerry cans so don't have room for 23 to ferment. Definitely gotta work on my mixing skills. Thanks heaps fellas

Do you get any plasticy taste off them or are they ok after a good scrubbing out?
MikeyBycrikey
No problems at all. Both my father and I brew in them. Bought them, gave them a clean then sanitise then brew. He basically just does a kit&kilo hahn premium light clone (haha well by kit and kilo I mean kit and 200g DME) and I brew mostly pale ale with no plastic taste in any brews. Water safe = brew safe I'd say.
