Guest
if a kit brew is started and the temp is 30 degrees when yeast pitched will it be dead...or will it still work or should another yeast sachet be put in???
GrahamB8
your yeast will be fine, if you pitch to hot you can cause mutations in the yeast which will give you unwanted flavours, it all depends on how fast you were able to get the temps down and stable. Hairy
I always put some water (5-10 litres) in a sanitised container and stick it in the fridge the night before I brew. The cold water helps get your wort to your pitching temp [wink]
Scottie
I put a santised SS dish of water covered with glad wrap in my hop frezzer this morning, that's right I don't have as many hops as Yob. I will have a massive ice block to put in my FV tomorrow. A bit more of an issue now that I am doing Extract and bigger boils. I am also aiming to pitch at 16-18'C

guest1525228310
Perhaps consider using a calculator if you plan on using cold water or ice to reduce the temperature of the wort. With the calculator you should be able to reduce the guesswork of how much cold water or ice to add to get a desired final volume and temperature. http://www.onlineconversion.com/mixing_water.htm
