DylanI
Hey all Has anyone used multiple yeasts in a single brew? I'm wanting to brew a monster IPA, with a projected OG of 1.071. I'm guessing a single pack of US05 won't be able to handle it. I was wondering if I could add a Coopers kit yeast to help out. Just wondering if anyone's done it, or if anyone thinks it's a stupid idea. Cheers, -Dyl
Hairy
I have done it and it was fine. I made a strong IPA and used: 1 x 12g packet of US-05 (one of the Craftbrewer twin packs) 1/2 packet of the kit yeast (from the TC IPA kit) The other 1/2 of the kit yeast went into the boil with 10 minutes to go for yeast nutrient. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
Guest
No problems mixing yeasts... however, I only suggest mixing like yeasts. eg Ales to Ales and Lagers to Lagers. yeah yeah I know there are blended yeasts around but unless you know exactly how much viable yeast you are playing with a nd mixing ratios etc, then I wouldn't bother.
