Hydrometer testing.

Hi I'm on day 7 and my fg has changed from 1010 to 1013 still to test day 8 not sure what is happening help.

Could be cO2 trapped under the hydrometer lifting the hydrometer if it’s bubbly? Twirl the hydrometer and let it drop to disperse the co2.

Hi @Woz ale Welcome to the forum.

I would do a number of things,

1. Thoroughly wash the hydrometer & the test tube to eliminate that as a cause.

2. Calibrate your hydrometer, instructions below.

3. Discard the first few 30ml or so from the FV as this could contain traces of yeast & take another amount to test.

As @RDT2 says you need to swirl the hydrometer to de-gas the test tube a level it for an accurate reading.

I would leave it for a few days & see if has changed & then the situation could be assessed.

Temperature can also affect hydrometer readings. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd just leave it for a few days and test it again. Once you are getting stable readings it is done.
