Could be cO2 trapped under the hydrometer lifting the hydrometer if it’s bubbly? Twirl the hydrometer and let it drop to disperse the co2. 2

Hi @Woz ale Welcome to the forum. I would do a number of things, 1. Thoroughly wash the hydrometer & the test tube to eliminate that as a cause. 2. Calibrate your hydrometer, instructions below. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=calibrating+a+coopers+hydrometer&qpvt=calibrating+a+coopers+hydrometer&FORM=VDRE 3. Discard the first few 30ml or so from the FV as this could contain traces of yeast & take another amount to test. As @RDT2 says you need to swirl the hydrometer to de-gas the test tube a level it for an accurate reading. I would leave it for a few days & see if has changed & then the situation could be assessed. Good Luck. Phil Edited September 11, 2023 by Classic Brewing Co 2
Kegory Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Temperature can also affect hydrometer readings. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd just leave it for a few days and test it again. Once you are getting stable readings it is done. 1
