MichaelD19
Hi Guys I'm Michael and I'm a brewaholic, I started assisting my father in-law about 2 yrs ago with his brewing. My friend and I have started to brew in my shed we have a few fermentors, and my father in-laws fermentor is there two. We had two brews down and tasted the test tube contents after checking hydrometer both were nice tasting, we bottled them. We've had some erractic weather and now three weeks later one of the brews seems to have an infection, it has in all but five bottles a scum type growth looks kinda yeasty ? thought we did something wrong. the father inlaws brew was fermenting after we bottled and his fermentor did the same. Air locks all working and no cross contaimination could occur ? Any thoughts. Thanks puzzled Michael
Hairy
I'm Hairy and I'm also a brewaholic. Welcome to the forum Michael. Have you tasted the beer from one of the scummy bottles? If so, how did it taste?
MichaelD19
Ready to drink well taste this friday, the scum looks like blue cheese we were thinking of scrapping it off and tasting as it was an amber ale and it was so smooth and beautiful at bottling we could hardly wait to drink it Should we try this ? Hairy
Give it a go. It won't kill you, it just may taste like crap. The taste test should tell you whether it is infected. Blue cheese in the bottle doesn't sound to good though. Probably best to have some crackers and wine on standby [biggrin]
