DavidP17
Hey all im going to put down PB2's Fruit salad ale tomorrow and was just wondering, it says to Mix the Cascade and Amarillo hops in a couple of litres of water just taken off the boil and allow it to steep for 30 mins. Does it mean to get say 2 litres of water boiling and then take the pot off the hotplate/burner and just add the hops in while the water slowly cools? Or get it boiling then back the heat off a little while leaving it on the hotplate on so it stays hot but not actively boiling? Any links that had some good info on basic hop boiling would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Hairy
You boil the water, take it off the flame and add the hops. Then just let it sit for 30 mins. Don't boil once you've added the hops. It is just like making tea. It doesn't matter if the water cools over that time; the temperature isn't important.
Hairy
Then strain the liquid into the fermenter. You don't want the sloppy hops in your FV.
DavidP17
Cheers hairy, does it have to be a really fine strainer or can i just grab a standard one from woolies and sanitize it
Guest
regular strainer will do the job, though the finer the weave the better but for my 2c, personally I use a big coffee plunger type thing.. dead easy[innocent] Yob
