Open Fermentation - Am I Crazy?

Hey Omar,

Did a preliminary (drunk [roll] ) taste last weekend after a wedding where I wrecked the tastebuds on nasty megaswill.

Foggy memories but the open fermented version had a nice character that the closed didn't. I got a faint bubblegum aftertaste in the open version.

The closed version is on tap now and almost all gone!!! It's nice!

I've got a dozen stubbies left over (6 open version and 6 closed for side-by-side tastings)

My uncle preferred the open version & my dad preferred the closed!

Results are in!

The open fermented batch is.........................a success![roll]

It's a bit more mellow than the closed version, no bubblegum aftertaste, no infection![biggrin]

I did a side-by side and the colour was exactly the same, aroma was more noticable in the closed version. Carbonation was exactly the same.

You can tell they are the same beer, but the difference is really slight, they are both really nice!

Open fermented on the left, closed fermented on the right.
