PB2
Nothing wrong with using grain. Although, it's another step that can lead to a spoilt brew. Steep the grains, strain, then bring the liquid to the boil  If the grain has dropped into the brew and you haven't killed off enzymes, wild yeast and other bacteria with heat - the brew may become very funky very quickly!! Luke
    Geez, I hope you clean out the fermenter with some bleach to kill the funky town yeast! Don't keg it either, cause you'll contaminate the seals!
THIRSTY MATT
are you serious about not kegging it??? or are you taking the piss about my paranoia?
Tricky
To paraphrase PB2's words - "If it looks like beer, smells like beer, and tastes like beer, then it is beer" and its fine to keg.
Luke
I'm kind of half serious and half taking the piss! If the hydro samples taste dodgy, I would bottle it. I reckon it would take a while for any off flavours to take over.

THIRSTY MATT
hi all, paul......does the yeasts with the euro lager usually give off sulfur smell? or is it the wild yeasts that fell in with my grain??? its putting off about the same amount of sulfur as an s-23, and the temp has been lowered to 14 degrees!! cheers matt
AussieJosh
Thirsty I had that sulfer fartty smell when i made it to! From my understanding this is normal. This maybe the reason your meant to leave it in the bottle for three months before drinking? or it will tatse/smell like a fart!?
PB2
Yep, a sulphur smell can be caused by a bacterial infection but is normally yeast driven.
THIRSTY MATT
lol josh!!!! thanks paul! ill let ya all know how it goes, just incase your siv backflips!! cheers matt
Luke
Maybe you should "siv" into a saucepan from now on Thirsty! Or, use a big coffee plunger to soak your grains?
Yasha
For what it's worth and not sure it is, given I am no where near as adventurous you guys are at with experimenting...................but I have used the Euro lager on a number of occasions myself and have never had a sulphur or should I say "farty" smell as you so eloquently describe Josh :), when doing so. Perhaps it is the extra yeasts dropped in that is causing this?
THIRSTY MATT
thats what im worried about yashsa!! pray for my beer mate! matt
Luke
I wish I smelt as good as a lager yeast fermenting the day after slamming a few down out of the keg!!!
Yasha
I'll certainly do that Matt! Haven't lost a batch since brewing my own some 5 years ago and would be most upset if I ever had to, so empathise with the fear of possibly losing one

PB2
Great to hear that it turned out well! I know you are probably not serious about the "drive to get a kebab" remark.....but.... Please don't get too confident about the amount you can drink while still being under the limit. We emphasise that calculating % alcohol is approximate, very approximate! You might think you are drinking a 2.8% beer when, in fact it is as high as 3.3%.
Yasha
great to hear Matt!! The Euro is a great beer and have brewed it a number of times myself :) Just kegged my Canadian blonde today and popped a bag of around 8 hot and slightly crushed and softened chillies from the garden, so am looking forward to tasting the result.
