PaulG24
I intend to brew the Coopers Hefeweizen next. But for the love of me I can't find dry wheat malt. The recipe asks for 1 kg Coopers Wheat malt(I presume they mean Dry wheat malt?). Can I use the 1.5kg Coopers Wheat Malt Extract?
Hairy
Coopers don't make dry wheat malt so the recipe would be asking for 1kg of liquid wheat malt. You can store the extra 500g in the fridge and throw it in your next brew.
PaulG24
Thanx Hairy. Any objections for not chucking in the extra 500g or will this alter the beer to much?
Hairy
I have made the Hefeweizen recipe before but I used a liquid wheat yeast instead of the dry ones listed. I bought a 1kg jar of liquid wheat malt (non-coopers, sorry) so it was easy. Adding an extra 500g wheat malt will change the brew. I haven't done it so I can't really describe the impact, but it will make it sweeter. Perhaps you need to boil some hops to up the IBUs a little. Not much because these are very lowly bittered beers. PhilboBaggins
I remember thinking that it would have been nice if Coopers had 1KG dry wheat malt packs available. If it were me, I couldn't be bothered splitting a can of gloop. Chuck the whole lot in with 250g cane sugar to dry it out a bit. [bandit]
