DavidH45
Hello! I got my second brew going yesterday, going for an IPA (just taken from the website recipes). Anyway, there is maybe a cm or so of foam but no where near enough to make the neck necessary. Im not worried about it but was just wondering what the foam is actually an indicator of? Is there something different going on when a brew produces a lot of foam compared to a little? (assuming the same recipe) Thanks in advance! David. Muddy Waters
The foam you describe sounds like krausen and is a sign of fermentation sometimes you will get a lot and sometimes you'll get none. Stouts and dark beers can be quite volcanic during fermentation (and messy).
