miket6
I mixed a cooper lager the other day ( six ) to be exact. 2 x coopers lager 1 x be1 and 1 x be2 with 42l of water at 28 c and have brewed at 19 deg c for six days OG was 1.058 and it has sat @ 1.017 for about 2 days. Has this fermented????
GregT5
I personally leave my brews in the FV for 14 days. This ensures fermentation is complete & allows the yeast time to clean up some of its by-products.
Hairy
Listen to Greg and give it some more time. It may go down another 2-3 points too. Not sure if your OG reading was correct; it seems a little high. I thought it would be around 1042-1045.
miket6
thanks fellas i really appreciate your response. Hairy Im pretty sure og was correct..could this be from using 2 kits in 42ltrs of water??
Hairy
2 kits in 42 litres will be the same gravity as 1 kit in 21 litres. If you scaled your recipe down you would have 1 kit and 1kg of other 'sugars' in 21 litres. That shouldn't give you an OG of 1058. More than likely the ingredients weren't fully dissolved and you got a false higher reading. Do you discard the first runnings when you take a reading? miket6
..come to think of it I may not have discarded by first drawings from the vessel. I guess thats the problem. Its still bubbling away after 7 days now and my spec grav is now 1.016 and i have been constantly brewing at 19deg celcius. I guess I will have to be patiient and wait!! Thanks again
