Canadian Eh!L
Hey Gang, It seems there is a shortage of Centenial hops this year making it difficult for us home brewers to get our hands on. I have two questions for you Blokes: 1. Is this a problem for you guys down under? 2. What is everyones recommendations for their best substitute? Guest
I don't seem to have any troubles getting my hands on Centennial. I have never had to use a substitute either. Sorry mate, not much help to you. I could suggest Cascade as a sub but then again, that still is not Centennial [crying]
Hairy
According to the BYO Hop Guide (link below), possible substitutes are cascade and columbus. As Bill mentioned, they are substitutes but not the same hop. BYO Hop Guide According to Craftbrewer, a blend of 70% Cascade and 30% Columbus will give a similar profile. Craftbrewer - Centennial Details I haven't noticed a shortage here but I am all out of Centennial so I think I had better stock up just in case. Canadian Eh!L
Thanks Yob, The link you sent is down in the US of A. I'm up here in the Great White North. That would be too far for the dog team to go to pick it up! Not to mention the US border guards might mistake it for something else.[bandit]
