sic_vl
Hi All On Friday I decided to do my first Coopers yeast culture for a brew i was doing on sunday. Ive done yeast starters before and they have worked fine. I went by the instructions on this website except i went 50/50 malt/dex and used just under 700ml water and I made it in my 2 litre starter bottle. When it came to sunday morning there was no krausen and seemed to be very little yeast settled on the bottom, so I didnt use it. I took it out of my fermenting fridge and sat it in my kitchen to see if it would change. Checked it at lunch time today seemed to be more yeast settled on the bottom and when I opened the lid I could hear gas rushing out. So It seemed to take 3 days to look like it was doing anything. it smells fine. And Im extremely good at sanitising etc. Is this normal for this yeast? Have I done something wring? During the day I was shaking it every few hours to keep the yeast working. It was kept in the mid 20s, so temp was fine. Any feedback would be appreciated. sic_vl
Retraction. Ok just got home from work It is looks really good, nice amount of sediment, nice krausen. So thats pretty much 3 days after I started it, so im guessing thats normal for this yeast? Other starters that Ive done have been ready to pitch in about 36 hours. Hairy
Good stuff!! I really don't have much to add but wanted to post something. Otherwise it would be a thread where you were the only one that posted and answered your own question.
Muddy Waters
...and with that post Hairy has restored balance and in the words of Dr. Peter Venkman saved us from a world of "Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!" Muddy Waters
No need for embarassment Sic [biggrin] It serves as another snapshot of the trials and tribulations that us humble home brewers face .
