Raider
Hi Guys, I am going to attempt the SMOTY Ale and the Fruit Salad Pale Ale on the weekend and I was just looking for some advice regarding the hops. For the SMOTY it says to bring 2 litres of water to the boil and simmer 10g hops for 15 minutes. Do you put LDM in the water and if so how much would you use? Thanks for your help. Muddy Waters
Done as per recipe is great for the SMOTY Raider....Just use 2L of water and simmer for 15 mins. No LDM is required in the water.
Raider
Thanks Muddy. Would some re-cultured coopers yeast work best with the SMOTY or should I just stick with the kit yeast?
Guest
Even though the recipe does not stipulate using LDM in the water and I haven't made the recipe yet, I would personally be using 10% to get the best result from the hops. This is my personal preference though of which others may not do. Nevertheless, until I am proven otherwise I would always be using 10% as a general rule of thumb as it has been proven that around 1.040 is the best gravity for your hop boil.
