weggl
Was wondering what the bitterness was of vintage ale? The recipe calls for Pale Ale and Real Ale. P/A is 340, Real Ale is 560. How do you work out the combined bitterness level? Is it 900 or 450? At 21L. Warren
Muddy Waters
I get 53.5 IBUs at 21L...blindly relying on spreadsheet figures though. EDIT: Actually, adding the figures in your post and dividing them by 21L gives 42.9 IBUs??? There you go 2 conflicting answers for the price of 1. One of them might even be right [innocent]
PB2
From the formula in FAQs and remembering it's only an estimate... Prior to fermentation: (340 + 560) * 1.7 / 21 = 73 IBU Allow for 30% to 10% bitterness loss due to fermentation and the final beer may be in the range 56 - 66 IBU.
