I'm prepping my Devil's Brew Porter for tomorrow (probably). I cracked my grains and they are now steeping in the fridge.

The recipe says remove and drain the grains, and then boil the liquid. But it doesn't say how long to boil them.

Is this just a flash boil? The only other boil I've done, for the Autumn Amber Ale, specified 5 minutes. Should I boil them for 5 minutes, too?

Any amount of boiling will remove nasties I don't think you could go wrong with 5 minutes. Some might say more but in a small volume I dont think much would live after a 5 minute boil. If worried go 10 but think u be safe

Hi Kegory, In my view it should say 5 minutes.  5 minutes will be fine.  Lots of the ROTM have that boil time.  Mind you, bringing to the boil means it will be at a heat high enough to kill nasties for long enough.
