Discounts and a possible loyalty scheme

Hi. I make coopers as did my father and grandfather. HOwever I wish to continure to support my local homebrew store (it also is a business handed down from generation to generation). I believe unless I order online i get no discount?

I work in the pet industry where it is commonplace for manufacturers of pet foods to offer discounts to retail customers, which the retail shop can then redeem the discount from the supplier to be compensated. Is there any chance Coopers can look into such a sheme so I can continue to brew coopers and support local business. Another common practice is a loyalty card which is stamped, so for example if I buy 10 coopers cans I then get a can free? Such a scheme would reward coopes customers and avoid them wandering from cooperes to try rival products.

Since you so carefully skirted part of the question i assume that the answer is no to the discount being extended to the local HBS?

When buying online, is delivery free? If not, the cost of delivery would easily erase any discount.

I always buy the cooper liquid malt extract, i find it to be the best around but i see no way for the discount to be useful when buying tins of malt online.

Has the concept of passing on this discount to those using a HBS been discussed?

Dont get me wrong, am and always will be a big fan of coopers but i dont see the discount being useful to a homebrewer.

Think yourselves lucky you have a HBS, we have Coles, Woolies and K mart, that is the extent of our homebrew supplies in town, I believe there is some backyarder, or was, but he was useless, he was never there when you needed anything, so I gave up on him.

The Thomas Cooper range - available only at Home Brew Specialist stores and online - carries our lowest margins (in fact, one particular brew kit was selling at a loss prior to the last price rise!!) We wear the low margin to give Home Brew Stores an opportunity to make some money - many Home Brew Stores do it tough and need to take the margins where they can!!

The retail price online could be lower but we are mindful that we should not be undercutting the Home Brew Specialist stores. The online store only sells home brew supplies as a service for those people who cannot get to a Home Brew store - and the freight is not free.

We want you to go to home brew specialist stores for your supplies - we consider them to be the heart and soul of home brewing!

And a good thing too Paul, I have bought gear online and appreciate the fact that we can at least get the gear, the freight is expensive, but the main reason I don't buy often on line is the fact that I am not always that organised!............. And the discount is handy and appreciated.

I agree Paul that the home brew stores are the heart and soul of brewing. It is tempting to buy caps, dextrose/enhancers from supermarkets when they have them on special, but I still wait and make that special trip to the local homebrew store.

The thing which is golden is the advice and personal experiences you can chat with the local HBS staff. Lucky we have this forum otherwise brewers like Magnay would miss out an an opportunity to get valuable info from fellow brewers.
