PB2
G'day Noname, to include your name with your posts go to http://www.coopers.com.au/club/default.php?tag=profile change message board details and alias I assume that you have a Micro-Brew Kit?? I reckon the best way to learn beer making is to take the plunge, ask questions, make mistakes (learn from them), drink the beer and have fun!! Start easy with a simple mix of a can of home brew and a 1kg of fermentable sugars. Important points to keep in mind with your first brew - 1. cleanliness, 2. temperature control (yeast is very forgiving but the closer you get to the optimum temperature the better the beer), 3. use the hydrometer (it measures density) to determine when the brew has finished fermenting - once you have two readings the same over two clear days you can assume the brew has finished fermenting, 4. smell and taste the brew before bottling, sample a bottle every couple of weeks to monitor how it develops/improves.[/list:u]
Bek
Thanks Paul, i have a name now! Do you think the imperial russian is too much for me to start with?
kieran
Yes! Start simple, and then go crazy. The imperial is a bit of a handful, but it will certainly impress the seasoned dark beer drinker.. or Siberian housemate.
Tricky
Patience!!! Patience is the other ingredient that you need to have to make a good brew. I had to go to the local bottle shop to buy some (in the form of Pale Ale). Rick :D
