NathanW9
What grain is needed to provide that smokey guinness flavour, or that smoked bacon hock flavour in a tooheys old? Did an Irish stout with 1kg DME and Fuggles Hops but not getting that coffee, smokey taste yet?? I assume its the grains which will give me the taste? Gash Slugg
Check out Rauch malt or smoked peat [cool]
Hairy
The flavour you are after is likely to be more of a roasted flavour than smokey. Try roasted barley. And some chocolate malt for the coffee flavour.
Canadian Eh!L
Hey N, I've tried Roasted barley, Peated crystal and if you are not up for using grains 10ml of liquid smoke will do the trick. I've done a couple of Toucan brews with OS stout, English Bitter and 200g-300g of peated crystal. Its a good drop after 6 months or more[cool] .
