KevinH
Hi Guys, A couple of weeks ago an idea popped into my head to make an esky out of a used wine barrel to keep under the patio for BBQs. I am thinking if I chop the top off (maybe 1/5th of the way down) then this can act as a lid with some hinges. When not in use it would be good for leaning against / resting a cold beer on. I still need to give a bit more thought about a drain hole (I think the barrels have a cork hole near the center), as well as creating a container/bucket in the top half of the wine barrel, or possibly sealing it somehow? Any suggestions or comments, or has anybody else made a unique esky? Kev

GrahamB8
Wont it leak once it drys out and the timber shrinks anyways? If you have a barrel fill it wheat beer then throw a hand full of hop pellets and a smack pack of Brett in there. After six months throw in two large jars of Cherries. Be sure to coat 75% of it in a thin wax coat to lower the permability of the barrel. In the mean time use it as a leaning/table device on your patio and be sure to give it a taste once a month. When on tasting it makes your tounge curl and the gravity is well below 1 its ready to bottle [love]
GregT5
Kevin, you could try this I might give it a try myself soon, given I might be able to source a barrel for a very reasonable price. [innocent]
