benh18
ive just scored a second hand fridge and an stc 1000 temp controler, hoping to do my next brew the right way. question is...do i need a heating source in my brew fridge with the stc 1000?, or does the fridge just kick in and out to maintain temp? Hairy
It depends on the ambient temps where you are brewing. If it is warm then you can get away with it. I don't need it in summer. If I set the fridge at 18 degrees with 0.5 variance then the fridge will kick in at 18.5 and bring it back down to 18. Because the ambient temperature is warmer, the temp of the wort will slowly raise back up to 18.5. For all other times of the year I use a heat pad. Sometimes it is needed and sometimes not; but it is plugged in just in case.

LordEoin
I have the opposite problem as most of you guys, i need to raise the temperature. i have a brewbelt around the FV in the fridge. Works a treat[happy] For lagering, i'll just need to turn the fridge on
